Often, we hear concerns about whether pregnancy is a barrier to securing a job.
Today, I won't just offer a positive insight; I'll share real stories that might change how you view this challenge—whether you're job-hunting while pregnant or in a position to hire.
My own journey as a mother who was dismissed post-maternity leave was a profound setback.
Yet, this experience, though initially traumatic, led me to forgiveness and growth.
Unfortunately, not all stories unfold this way, but let me share two inspiring tales of clients who turned potential obstacles into triumphs.
Ana's Journey: Ana, a Global Director at an NGO, was five months pregnant when she was hired.
She disclosed her pregnancy early on, and far from being a problem, it was never even seen as an issue.
Ana not only secured the job she desired but also found an employer who offered the flexibility needed to start a family abroad as an expat.
Ana's story is not just about personal resilience; it’s about finding an organization that values capability over circumstance.
A Scientist's Unexpected News: Another remarkable story is about J., a data scientist who relocated from Brazil to Poland for her career.
Shortly after moving, she started experiencing symptoms and discovered she was pregnant.
Her employer supported her throughout her pregnancy, ensuring she could take maternity leave and return to her position secured.
J.'s experience highlights the potential for supportive work environments that respect and accommodate life’s surprises.
What do Ana and J. have in common?
They believe in their potential, remain dedicated to their professions, and balance their roles as mothers and high performers in their respective fields.
Now, I pose these questions to you:

These stories underscore a crucial point: Pregnancy need not be a barrier to career advancement or securing a job.
What matters is the value you bring to the table and finding the right cultural fit with employers who appreciate that value.

Despite my qualifications and experience, once employers learn about my pregnancy, their enthusiasm fades. Some recruiters have even been candid about this bias.
