As state and local government leaders and community advocates explore how predictive analytics can improve child welfare outcomes, many questions and potential concerns surface.
It is critical to understand that government youth services agencies across the United States have used actuarial Risk & Need Assessment tools for many years. Many of these were developed using predictive analytics to identify “static” risk factors, such as low birth weight and mother was previously in foster care, that contribute to risk of maltreatment.

8 年Not a fan of it for in abuse detection, but do favor the idea of using it to predict community services to high risk families thereby reducing the risk.

8 年I have been learning about the predictive potential of data for suicide prevention (which kind of runs parallel to child welfare risk). It seems like powerful "adjunct" to a decision about risk. I don't want a machine making that assessment for me BUT see the potential for it to catch something I missed.
