Can you believe that a decade ago, Siri, Alexa, Tesla, Cogito, or the concept of 'Live Chatbots' weren't there?
AI's function has gone beyond quantum computing now. We are living in an ever-evolving digital world where voice assistants and Artificial Intelligence have become an inseparable part of our lives. While we don't notice it, we can find it almost everywhere. From cars, homes, restaurants, airports, to workplaces, hotels, and more.
Artificial Intelligence has grown due to extensive behavioral algorithms that have helped them adapt and understand our likes and dislikes. It has changed consumer behavior theories already with the help of voice assistants contributing to smart homes and smart appliances.
Technologies like Google Duplex shows that the future of voice assistants is not just promising but plays a significant role in reshaping future businesses and industries.
According to a survey by PWC.com, voice assistants are already influencing smart home purchases -
"When people do shopping for a smart home device or product, 89% of consumers said they were influenced by the product’s compatibility with their voice assistant. The reverse is also true—85% said a smart device(s) they owned influenced what kind of voice assistant they used/purchased."
7 key predictions for the future of Voice Assistants & Artificial Intelligence
1. Streamlined Conversations
Google & Amazon both have upgraded their devices to understand contextual factors. Now, you have to say the wake word like "Alexa" before the first command and not before every following command. With minuscule yet incredible advancement, the future of voice assistant technology opens the door for user-centric experiences.
2. Compatibility and Integration
Amazon pioneered the integration of voice technology with other products. Google and others have already joined the market. Devices like Amazon's Echo, Apple's Homepod, Google Home were able to integrate with numerous electronic appliances, home cameras, etc. already. Such technologies will influence more manufacturers in the future to create custom devices that serve specific functions.
3. Search Behaviors Changes
Brands that were into touch points are now gearing for listening points and organic search, as they will be the main channel for brand visibility in the future. The old prediction of ComScore data, that "50% of all search will be by voice tech by 2020." - is already becoming a reality.
If you take Juniper Research seriously, the future of voice assistant is remarkable. According to them, the voice-based ad revenues are expected to reach $ 19 billion by 2022.
4. Personalized Experiences
Voice Assistant/Artificial Intelligence technology is continuously evolving to offer more personalized experiences. Google home has evolved to support six user accounts with a unique voice identification feature. With the "Learn My Voice" command, Alexa can create individual voice profiles. They can memorize nicknames, office locations, payment information, and so much more.
The future of voice assistants is expected to be a more diverse application for personalized experiences than giving information on 'My Calendar,' weather, news today, or following voice commands for controlling home electronics.
5. Voice Push Notifications
Google and Alexa, currently allows users to get voice push notifications for any compatible third-party app. So instead of reading a notification, a user can listen to it. The future of voice-assistants will be to engage the users more with voice push notifications. It will effectively engage and remind users only about those apps and displays that are user-relevant, making it an effective potential customer connection tool.
6. Touch Interaction
Google has managed to integrate the visual and voice capabilities of their assistant to allow users to communicate more effectively. There are more than 500 million Google Assistant users, and with the new integration, future business interactions will be interesting.
7. Secure
As per Microsoft, nearly 41% of the users of voice devices feel apprehensive regarding the trust and confidentiality protocol of Artificial Intelligence. Amazon & Google have updated their voice assistant devices with security measures like speaker verification and ID as part of using voice assistant experience.
Currently, the majority of people use voice assistance to purchase low-risk items like books, food, grocery, etc. However, with better security protocols, the future of voice assistance can expand and grow into high-risk segments like travel reservations, hotel reservations, clothing, and more.
According to Techcrunch, the future of voice assistants is bright, and its uses are expected to increase roughly by 8 billion devices by 2023 (combined use of smartphones & smart speakers).
The COVID Effect
With the world shifting to a digital landscape, people will prefer connecting over digital platforms more. This consumer behavior will push users further towards utilizing voice assistants, and the companies need to prepare and adapt quickly.
