Predictability!
Weirdly, predictable is a word that we don’t often associate with leadership.
I guess the word predictable is just too boring……
Even the dictionary has it listed as derogatory — behaving or occurring in a way that is expected.
It seems as if there are just far too many other exciting ways to describe the traits of a leader — like:?
?? Dynamic
?? Synergizing
?? Action-Focused
?? Change-Oriented
As we continue to push our leaders to be more exciting — we mustn’t forget that leadership is a relationship-based process that lives on a reciprocal scale.
Just as leaders have expectations of their followers — followers have expectations of their leaders.
If your followers don’t know who you are — and they can’t predict the values and priorities of the leader that is showing up to the office from one day to the next day — that’s a problem.
Yes, leadership is an ever-changing process of variables, but leaders should still strive to provide predictability.
