Precision times two
We also deliver custom steel work 'at a distance' – in concrete terms for the centre axis of two boreholes, which needed to be produced directly above one another with spacing of 350 millimetres.
The Haeusler Group from Switzerland is considered the world's leading forming technology company and has been presenting us with challenging tasks for many years as a client. The most recent example of this was the joint of a bending machine that was to be burned from a S355 slab in five levels. Alongside handling its dimensions – 600 mm thick, 1,550 mm wide, 2,950 mm long and weighing 15.3 tonnes – particular precision was also required in terms of burner control here. Following preheating and a contour cut, we first produced a borehole with a diameter of 1,060 mm. The next step then involved cutting the chamfers at the second and third level. However, the actual challenge only came after this. The common centre axis of two boreholes located above another with a spacing of 350 mm – each with a of diameter of 310 mm – needed to be aligned with absolute precision. Our virtuosos on the flame cutting machine also mastered this task with flying colours. Each borehole had to be cut out of 600 mm thick sheet metal. For this, the component was placed on its edge in the pit. The team produced the boreholes one after the other with surgical precision, rotating the component into the corresponding position each time. The result? A precisely aligned common central axis, which once again served to? underline our flame cutting expertise. Following blasting on both sides, the joint was ready for delivery to Haeusler.
