"Happiness depends upon ourselves." – Aristotle.
In the bustling city of Mumbai, amidst towering skyscrapers and neon-lit streets, lived a wealthy man. He was known for his immense fortune but often felt a void within, always chasing more success and material gains.
One evening, as he sat in a high-end café overlooking the city, he noticed an old taxi driver named Ganesh sipping tea at a roadside stall. Despite his humble existence, Ganesh had a peaceful smile on his face. Intrigued, He walked over and joined him.
‘I have all the riches one could ever dream of,’ He sighed, ‘yet I feel restless. Tell me, old man, what is the secret to true happiness?’
Ganesh smiled and said, ‘Let me make you an offer. I will give you a treasure greater than all your wealth, but on one condition—tomorrow will be your last morning.’
He was taken aback. He thought of his luxurious penthouse, his expensive cars, and his vast empire. But then, he imagined the morning sunlight streaming through his window, the aroma of fresh coffee, the laughter of his children, and the simple joy of watching the city wake up. His heart tightened at the thought of never experiencing those little moments again.
‘No amount of money is worth more than the gift of another sunrise,’ He murmured, realisation dawning upon him. ‘My wealth is meaningless if I cannot live to enjoy life’s true blessings.’
Ganesh nodded. ‘You see, life itself is the greatest wealth. Every morning we wake up is a priceless gift. Gratitude, not gold, brings contentment.’
He left that evening with a changed heart. He no longer measured his worth in assets but in the time spent with loved ones. From that day on, he lived each moment with gratitude, knowing that the ability to witness another day was the greatest treasure of all.
A heart filled with gratitude sees value beyond wealth, finding joy in the ordinary.
