Pre-Stroke Health Linked to Risk of Additional Episodes
A stroke jostles the whole body at its core. It’s highly improbable that someone can fully recover from such an episode, but it does happen. Regardless, the likelihood of additional strokes after the initial event --as well as the development of dementia-- increases drastically. A new study shows that the chances of additional strokes are even higher when taking into consideration the individual’s health before the first stroke.
As Health Day News states, the heart’s condition before a stroke can be a great factor when determining if another stroke will happen. The conditions that a study showed increase these risks are high blood pressure, diabetes, low levels of HDL, and if the patient was a smoker or not.
This just further exemplifies the importance of getting healthy and staying healthy. As we get older, we will see the repercussions of unhealthy lifestyle choices and have a responsibility to ourselves to prevent such events from happening.
