Another guard spoke to her in broken English, ‘Appointment madam? Else go. He will not meet.’
Just then the first guard opened the gate for a Rolls Royce which swiftly moved out of the mansion. The five guards saluted and closed the gate again.
The girl watched the car pass by closely and asked the guards, ‘Was that Rishabh? I have seen his pictures.’
‘Yes, madam. Why are you still here? Sir has no time for fans or strangers. You can’t meet him even in your dreams.’
She took out a paper from her purse, read it and tears drizzled down her eyes. She wiped her tears, folded the paper, inserted it back into her purse and turned to leave.
An elderly guard saw her and asked, ‘Ae chinki, wait. Kya hua (what happened)?’ Chinki was a commonly used term for a race of people with small thin eyes and flat faces.
She turned back and said, ‘He is my father. Can I meet him?’
‘Who? Rishabh Sir?’
All guards laughed and one of them said, ‘Yeh wala naya hai (this one is new). What’s your name?’
‘Nisa Yuen.’
