Pre-Order Coaching and Mentoring for Dummies
You can pre-order my second book, Coaching and Mentoring for Dummies , which comes out July 13. I revised a 20-year-old management bestseller to address topics like the Great Resignation, bridging generational differences, working remotely, building emotional intelligence, mentoring for different needs, and understanding and supporting a diverse workforce. This in addition to learning how to delegate, give constructive feedback, coach for career self-reliance and get the best from people. In short, there’s a ton of practical advice to help anyone grow as a leader. I’d love to hear what you think if you order your copy.?
Switching from Doer to Leader
I was interviewed recently by Jeff Perry, host of The Engineering Career Coach Podcast, about why it’s difficult for doers to make the switch to leader. Here’s the thing: it’s difficult for emerging leaders to let go of so many of the tasks and responsibilities that they’ve come to love that’s part of the job. They now have to delegate, coach, mentor and let people grow by figuring it out on their own: just like they did. This sense of losing their identity—the thing that brought them joy—is real. Sure, there’s an upside to playing a larger role in an organization, but it’s important to acknowledge what doers give up. Author William Bridges wrote about the natural cycle of transitions in his seminal book, Transitions: Making Sense of Life’s Changes . To hear more on the subject, check out my interview with Jeff.?

What I’m Cooking
No, not pie. I’m grilling a lot and keeping it light. I ran into a NYTimes recipe recently for roasting tomatoes and onions and olive oil until soft, and mixing it with cooked farro, pesto, spinach and mozzarella (or chevre or feta). Haven’t tried it but maybe for dinner tonight?
