PRE-CHRISTMAS CULLING - THE ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE WAY
This is the time of the year I push myself to sort out my house and have a purge. A few years ago, I worked through the Magic of Tidying Up, and I can tell you one thing – you need to keep on top of it.
(My family and I have lived in the same house for almost 20 years, and when you don’t move regularly there’s not that huge opportunity to cull. )
So, on school holidays, and particularly in November I revisit this. A couple of my aims are to clear a whole bookshelf, one clothes drawer, and digitalise the contents of a filing cabinet drawer.
But what about at work? Do you do a pre-Christmas/End of year cull? What sort of rubbish and things do you have to get rid of? And do you have the option to make it easy for your clients and/or your staff to dispose of things in an environmentally friendly way?
Many people do not realise the scope of things that can be recycled, and then when they do it can be a source of overwhelm. You can help reduce that overwhelm for them.
Here’s some things that can be recycled (not an exhaustive list), but that you can’t put out with your recycle bin:
- Coffee pods
- Batteries
- Light globes
- Textas, markers, pens
- Bread Tags
- Printer cartridges and other ewaste
- Cameras
- Mobile Phones
- Cables (all those ones you no longer know what to do with…)
This Christmas, could you start up a few collection points for these items in your work place?
If you can, I invite you to share with us what you collect to recycle and how you organise this.
To find out where you can recycle many of these items have a look at https://recyclingnearyou.com.au and https://www.terracycle.com/en-AU and your local council website.

5 年Great post Kim! We are collecting bottle tops and bread tags to turn into prosthetics, and sort our soft plastics. We also have a big craft box so that most recyclable boxes and paper can be repurposed into a young persons creative design. We have our printer cartridges refilled at cartridge world too. Our Captain sustainability is working towards drop off points for those other items like batteries. Keep spreading the word ????????
