Prayers for Peace
"Write a prayer that is?worthy of the destiny to which you have been called." ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
— John O'Donohue, Irish Poet
Greetings!? I often listen to Deepak Chopra and Roger Gabriel. Roger recently created a podcast on prayers from different cultures, races and religions. Regardless of religion or culture, the prayers all speak of love and understanding, forgiveness and tolerance.?
Why prayer?
We find ourselves in troubled times and prayer—communication with a higher power—can offer solace, a feeling of peace and hope. And, healing on any level begins with hope.? In this newsletter, I share some of these prayers. The first one is from Mahatma Gandhi.?
I offer you peace I offer you love I offer you friendship I see your beauty I hear your need I feel your feelings My wisdom flows from the highest source I salute that source in you. Let us work together for unity and love.
Now a prayer from The Cherokee Nation:?
Oh Great Spirit of our ancestors I raise my pipe to you.? Give us the wisdom to teach our children to love, respect and be kind to each other, that they may grow with peace in mind. Oh Great Spirit who made all races, look kindly upon the whole human family. Take away the arrogance and hatred, which separates us from our brothers and sisters. Great Spirit, help me always to speak truth quietly … to listen with an open mind when others speak and to remember the peace that may be found in silence.

And finally, a Buddhist prayer for peace:?
May all beings everywhere plagued with sufferings of body and mind quickly be freed from their illnesses. May those frightened cease to be afraid. May those bound be free. May the powerless find power and may people think of befriending one another.?

1 年With much thanks and gratitude to women. I hope one doesn't have to be a woman to contribute comment on this venue. I surrender my poetic gifts to my ancestral cousin, Rumi: 'Inside the great mystery that is, we don't really own anything. What is this competition we feel then, before we go one at a time through this Gate.' Those who care the most about humanity, regardless of their background, are the best of living beings; and that is real living and being alert to our callings as a creature of dignity in this transitional journey. Thus, one hasn't truly lived, unless contributed of their unique gifts to fellow beings - that is true living. Then the question remains, whether you have truly lived a life before your death? Sat Francis-of- Assisi would simply say, 'Lord make me an instrument of your peace, love, justice, forgiveness, pardon, truth, and eternal life.'
