Prayer

Let’s talk about prayer. First of all, prayer is communication, or better put, it is God asking us to relate to him. The invisible God is asking us to relate to him on the basis of not being visible to us, but on the basis of a conversation or discussion. He wants a relationship with us. I don’t think any relationship with anybody, any human being, is possible without communication and conversation. God wants to be communicated with, he wants a conversation, he wants to know us and for us to know him. As St. Paul said, pray without ceasing, meaning the invisible God and Jesus Christ want to know us. He wants to know us well and intimately. The only way we can know God or be known is through prayer. Since God is not visible to us, this prayer requires great effort, it requires great faith. Prayer is a personal conversation with the living God, not visible to us, but as we speak to him and as he relates to us, we know him more and more and become known. Prayer is conversation, it is a relationship, it is not God asking for anything or us getting anything. It is the relationship that is the essence of prayer. It is knowing God and God knowing us and being known. That is what prayer is all about. Not about getting something or asking for something, or gaining something. It is none of that. It is about knowing God and God knowing us, and most of all, knowing Jesus and Jesus knowing us. This is only possible through prayer and great effort in prayer to the invisible God.
