Pray Continually // 1 Thessalonians 5:17

By Mark Jordan | Spiritual Advisor

We are taking a couple days to explore 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Today we are going to consider what it means to pray continually.

Praying continually does not mean we go through life with our head bowed, eyes closed, and hands clasped. Praying continually has more to do with an ongoing commitment to communication with God. I hope you know that prayer is an amazing gift where the Creator of the Universe wants to hear what is on your heart and share with you what is on His. It might be easy to think prayer is unnecessary since God already knows everything, but that denies prayer’s true power: it keeps us close to God so we can feel assured of a vital aspect of yesterday’s writing, that no matter what we face, we do not face it alone. So, praying continually pulls us out of a self-centered existence into a much broader understanding and appreciation of reality. That being the case, we are to lift our head to be alert to the opportunities surrounding us; open our eyes to see what God sees; and lend a hand to help serve God by serving others.

So, I hope you will pray continually today and every day. Get and stay in connection with the Lord so God can lead, guide, and direct you where He needs you to be in order to reflect His image back to creation!
