Practising Self-Love

Weeks leading up to February 14th, the social media frenzy is flooded with hearts, flowers and all time favorite love songs just to remind us (especially the ones in relationship) someone is waiting for a gift. And for my single friends, a reminder of what could've been or not ??.

I personally feel like its so much burden, on both ends - some enjoy the extra gesture, for some it's more of a responsibility, and for some it is “If he didn't remember to celebrate this date….it's overrrr” moment.

Through the journey of adulthood, the times i have dated, I never liked the cliche's of Valentine's Day, declaring one's love because the day is dedicated for lovers. And after so many years i still feel the same way.

Today, I am looking at a different side of it - Self-Love. I am firm believer - people can give what they have - the love you show to others is the love you have for yourself. Let's be clear on the very distinct characteristics of how self-love manifests. Self-love is not arrogance - to be really careful not to assoiciate it with selfishness - needing everything just your way. The nature of self-love is, to share abundantly, to be kind, to be a human at the core of it.

Wouldn't it be magical to celebrate one's self in this gorgeous day? With busy lifestyle and the chain of 9-5 for some, and building empire for others, the moment to celebrate ourselves just because we are worthy is never a priority.

With so much focus on the other side of our gaze, when will we stop to think, to breathe and tell ourselves - “You are loved, you are worthy and you need to be celebrated”. Narratives of what we celebrate matters, unpopular opinion maybe, but do we really need to do something of such magnitude on THIS DAY? What of the rest of the days in a year?

This year, I decided to do something different, I compiled some of my favorite questions to remind myself of Self-Love and worksheets or journaling whichever you want to call it, and share them with you if you find them helpful.
