Civic Education for the 2024 EP Elections
If you are searching for effective ways to engage your students on the topic of the upcoming EP elections, look no further than this educational cartoon by KU Leuven University and Prof. Dr. Kris Grimonprez titled "European Citizen, Does It Matter?" This short film aims to educate for democratic EU citizenship and will be utilised by educators in secondary schools in Belgium to explore the European elections. Film for thought: teaching civic competencies and social awareness made easy
Teach complex concepts with Journeys in Film - a US nonprofit organisation dedicated to shaping globally competent and socially active future generations through the transformative power of film. By providing cost-free, educational resources accompanying carefully curated feature films and documentaries, this organisation helps educators across the world seamlessly integrate engaging content into their lessons. Their programmes tackle critical topics such as human rights, poverty, stereotyping, environmental issues, and others. They develop valuable discussion guides (see an example Discussion Guide for Navalny) for films that encourage dialogue in diverse settings, from after-school clubs to community screenings and university classes, promoting empathy and broadening perspectives.?
Free lesson sharing for civic educators
Share My Lesson is a free, award-winning community-based site that brings together educators, parents and caregivers, school-related personnel, educational partners, and higher education professionals from around the world who have the common goal of finding and sharing the best educational resources available. It is committed to providing high-quality and effective lesson plans and professional development resources worldwide — all for free. As of 2023, Share My Lesson has 2.1 million members and more than 420,000 resources (geared to toddlers through higher education), which have been downloaded more than 16 million times.
Noteworthy events for civic educators
On Tuesday, 28 November, at 10:00 a.m. CET, the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) is releasing its ICCS (International Civic and Citizenship Education Study) 2022 International Report. ICCS is the largest international, and only dedicated, study of civic and citizenship knowledge, investigating the ways in which young people are prepared to undertake their roles as citizens in a world where contexts of democracy and civic participation continue to change. The livestreamed event will present results and key findings from the report and will be held in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in the Netherlands. Explore the 'Maestras (Women Masters)' exhibition in Madrid, showcasing 100 artworks by remarkable female artists from the late 16th to the early 20th centuries. This transformative exhibit challenges traditional male-centric art history, shedding light on artists recognised in their lifetimes but later erased from the narrative. Organised into eight sections, it delves into historical context and female collaboration amid a sexist society - a diverse array of art forms and themes, sparking conversations on gender equality, historical bias, and art's role in social change. The fifth edition of the Kyiv Biennial, scheduled for 2023, is taking place across Europe, including Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Uzhhorod, Berlin, Warsaw, Lublin, Antwerp, and Vienna. Despite the war in the region, the biennial project is proceeding, aiming to reintegrate the Ukrainian artistic community and address cultural, social, and environmental challenges in a complex political environment. It is a decentralised, European event that seeks to build long-term relationships with Ukraine and explore exit strategies from the current situation. The Kyiv Biennial is an interdisciplinary forum for art, knowledge, and politics, known for utilising unique architectural spaces in Kyiv and co-founding the East Europe Biennial Alliance with other art events in the region. Resources in reach for civic educators
This open call for funding under the Bilateral Fund CLT aims to support various activities connected with contemporary culture and living art in Slovakia and the Donor States, which include Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. The eligible activities include networking, knowledge exchange, and bilateral cooperation between these countries. The main goal is to strengthen bilateral relations between Slovakia and these Donor States in the specified Area of Support.

Culture Moves Europe provides mobility grants for artists and cultural professionals in all 40 creative Europe countries. It covers the sectors of architecture, cultural heritage, design and fashion design, literature, music, performing arts and visual arts. It’s suitable for both individuals and organisations since the scheme consists of two action lines: individual mobility (for individuals and groups of up to five persons) and residencies. ?

Deadline for residency hosts: 16 January 2024
European Digital Deal calls on artists interested in exploring the deep entanglement between new technologies and democracy to apply for one of 12 residencies. The selected artists will receive a 25.000 EUR grant to complete their project, the support of the group of experts around each residency, access to mentorship through an incubation programme, and the chance to show their work at prominent locations.

Power Station++ is a non-reimbursable funding programme for internships and travel grants for professionals, at least 18 years of age, working in the cultural field, run by the Center for Projects of the Municipality of Timi?oara, with funds allocated from the state budget, through the budget of the Ministry of Culture. Cultural organisations are also invited to express their interest in supporting the mobility of professionals active in the cultural field within the framework of the Power Station++ funding programme, running from September 2023 to June 2024.
Deadline: 15 April 2024 (if funds are still available)
The European Cooperation Projects aim to support collaborative initiatives in the cultural and creative sectors across various organisations and countries in the EU. These projects are aligned with the Creative Europe Programme's cultural policies, focusing on issues like inclusion, diversity, and sustainability.

With the local.history funding program, the EVZ Foundation supports locally and regionally active history initiatives from Central and Eastern Europe. Funding is provided for projects aimed at addressing and remembering the period of National Socialism and World War II. The projects deal with places, persons and events of National Socialist history thematically.

HISTOLAB is seeking to spotlight original and innovative projects in learning history from teachers, students, practitioners, researchers, museum experts, as well as early career researchers and professionals for the next European Innovations Days in History education (3-5 April 2024).
