Practice winning in order to WIN.

Today I thought I will share my recent reflections on winning and a winner’s mindset.

Recently, I have been thinking about winning a lot, especially that I’ve been trying to win a specific work-related project, and as it happened- I lost three times so far as I was bidding to win it.

It made me think- and most importantly, it made me doubt myself; is it bad timing, as perhaps I’m always bidding too late when the bidding had been long done? Or is it that my professional profile is not strong enough and prevents me from being spotted? Or perhaps it’s my sheer qualifications and experience that is preventing me from getting that project under my belt. So I had a chat with my husband following those recent disappointments and he said to me that perhaps neither of the projects so far was meant to be my work? He has a point, perhaps we are meant for specific jobs, tasks, projects, and destined to do the things that we were destined to get. However, I believe in creating my own destiny, therefore kind of half-listened to that piece of advice.

He then carried on saying that I need to keep practicing in order to win, as through practice, rejection and essentially failure we manage to get so good at what we’re doing that there comes a point where there is no other option for us but to win. Practice winning and you will develop a mindset of a winner. That is how you win. That piece of advice got straight through me. Such a simple rule, yet so easily forgotten.

Practice winning in order to WIN.

Take athletes and Olympians for example; is it their sheer physical predisposition, or is it all in the power of their mind that secures their wins? I think it’s both, but in order to win, they notoriously practice winning. Especially in sports, practicing is crucial in order to win. And they never say they lose against other athletes, they often say they lose against their own selves.

Next time when you lose at something, think about that experience as your practice, practice of winning. In order to win, you have to become a notorious winner at heart, and the winning will come when you’ve mastered the art of losing and developed the mindset of a winner.

As Wayne Gretzky said: ‘’You miss 100 percent of the shots you never take.’’

Practice winning in order to WIN.
