Practice Makes Perfect

Practice Makes Perfect

Hello Leaders,

This week, let's explore how consistent practice – in both life and work – builds the foundation for excellence.

In life, routines like morning meditation, setting intentions, shared mealtimes, and family traditions bring order and peace. In sports, victories are earned well before game day – in the gym, where athletes grind through practice, practice, practice. And in business, our operating mechanisms create rhythm and repeatable patterns that foster trust. When routines and meetings become rote or lose purpose, cut them. But when they drive value, they become a powerful tool for growth and cohesion.

To truly develop your team, let them practice. Skills don’t simply “appear”; they’re built through structured opportunities to learn and apply new behaviors. Here’s how to bring this approach to life for common growth areas:

  • Executive Presence: If someone on your team is developing executive presence, give them space to practice with a mentor or coach. Then, let them present in front of senior leaders. Exposure breeds comfort and poise.
  • Tact and Inclusion: If another team member needs to strengthen their tact or inclusivity, have them jot down their thoughts before a meeting instead of jumping in immediately. In a 1:1 session, review what they wrote. This simple exercise can uncover underlying fears and help them learn how to express their ideas at the right moment.

Mastery requires repetition, refinement, and patience. If your team needs support in building these critical skills, I’m here to help you navigate the intelligence revolution and develop leaders who stand out.

Until next time, keep pushing forward.

Best, MaryAnn
