A Practice in Curiosity

A Practice in Curiosity

I've been thinking a lot about Curiosity (capital 'C'). How powerful it can be as a means to discovery.?And also a practice in?open mindedness, and compassion.?It can be a way to cultivate ideas and new ways of thinking; to activate our true aliveness.??

Good question asking, though, is a skill most of us need to refine and hone.

So often, we lean in with curiosity (lower case 'c'), to confirm our hard-held beliefs.?We ask?questions starting with "don't you think...?" and ending with, "...am I right?"

Then walk away feeling justified and important -- which our ego loves.?But with questions like those, where's the wonder and awe??The empathy??

The element of surprise?

Being a trusting leader invites us to?not have all the answers,?and then exercise the bold humility to find them.?To ask, "what can I learn here?" again and again and again.?And then leave wide open space to listen closely.??

Start today.?Notice more, and allow for wonder and awe.??

Practice compassionate inquiry and let the joy of learning overtake you.?

There is no destination to knowing.?We don't arrive at the end of our curiosity, throw up our hands and declare, "I've done it!?I now understand everything!?My job is done here."??

No, we keep asking good questions -- with open eyes and an open heart.?

Questions like:

?? How can we foster growth in one another??

?? What do you value??

?? How do you live your beliefs??

?? Where do you and I align and where to we part ways??

?? What lights you up?

?? What is your story?

And then:

"Wow, really??Tell me more..."

I absolutely love the ?? idea of “compassionate inquiry”, the wonderful questions you’ve provided and the reminder to follow up with more questions! ??????
