Have you ever noticed that when good teams are playing it appears that their movements are instinctual in the individual members appeared to be in sync.
Does such coordination happen on its own. It requires continuous practice relentless corrections sometimes a heap of frustration plenty of mistakes and a collection of small wins which allow for the team members to master both the what do we do part as well as see what do I need to do to make the WE part work.
There is a fallacy floating around that agile means everyone can do whatever they want and this idea couldn't be farther from the truth.
The reasons why agile works are because rules are spelled out in advance. The participants have a say in what those rules are.
By participating in defining the rules the participants commit themselves to their adherents. If the rules don't work, they are to be changed. This is a continuous process that never seems to end.
The participants measure whether the rules help the team get to their desired results. Conversely if the rules don't help reach the goal, they have no value the team relishes working together and not the results are not possible unless each participant contributes.
You might be thinking at this point where the agility comes in because the team's actions become instinctive. They can react in an adaptive manner.
Agility does not happen on its own. It requires lots of work to get there.
Any sports teams as a metaphor best suited for the situation
Do we know what our desired results are?
Are we sure our actions always help us achieve that goal?
Can we identify what is getting in the way of us reaching success?
Are we utilizing the potential of all team members?
Do we believe that continuous change is the only way for us to improve?
This is only a small collection of the questions you should pose to ensure you are on the right path towards agility.
PS: Croatia reaching to the final of FIFA 2018 World Cup – is the classic example of how great agile team can make the difference & achieve any toughest goal like they beat & devasted the attack of most powerful messi & entire argentine army.
