Practical Ways To Secure Your Property

Recently, a study conducted by Pro-Vigil, a surveillance protection company, reported a 28% increase in reported theft and a rise in vandalism against businesses in 2022. What’s most disturbing is that these crimes are on the rise and are showing no signs of declining.

?It’s difficult to eliminate your risk entirely, but you can reduce it significantly with some economical methods. You can ratchet it up further with other options that may cost more.

?Deterrents And Warnings

  • Fencing around buildings, valuables, bulk plants, and parking areas
  • Locked gates — if you have gates and locks, use them!
  • Strong lighting — ensure they all work and illuminate vital areas.
  • Security system and surveillance on office and storage facilities?
  • “Under Surveillance” warning signs can discourage would-be thieves and mischief-makers.?

Safe Habits & Procedures

  • Lock all vehicles and equipment?if?you are not in attendance. (Depending on your location, keeping vehicles and equipment locked?at all times will help?deter break-ins and unwanted vandalism?when not in use.)
  • If you have items sitting around that are easy for?you?to grab, someone else might notice and help themselves. Have inventory safely stored out of sight to reduce the chance of theft or damage?(keep tool boxes locked and secured at all time).
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment, parts, and company assets, including tanks and cylinders in your yard. If you don’t know you have it, you may not realize when it’s gone.

?Keep in mind that, in general, thieves are lazy, so the harder you make it for thieves to steal or vandals to access your facilities, the less likely you’ll have problems. You may never be 100% protected from crooks who want to pilfer your property or vandals who wish to deface it, but don’t provide them an easy path. Your insurance agent will assure you that protective deterrents, software, and good practices will serve you and your company well.
