- Be kind — Every time bad thoughts come up, consider what you would tell a loved one, a spouse, a friend or a child in that very same situation and talk kindly to yourself instead. We tend to mistreat ourselves yet we have the highest regard for those around us, try applying some of that empathy on yourself.
- Acknowledge your shit — Okay, you feel like shit, you are unemployed, you feel like a failure, you are flat ass broke and you feel like you will never work again. Own it! Don’t try and pretend that these feelings don’t exist, don’t run from them, or hide them or discard them, suppressing them will only make them get stuck somewhere in your mental, emotional or even physical body and will continue to manifest. Acknowledge your thought and simply choose not to go along with it.
- 1% Better — Do 1 thing, only 1 thing each and every day. Set a goal for that day. Do that and mark it as successful in your subconscious mind. 365 Days of 1% adds up to 365%. That is a lot of progress that you can make in just 1 year of your life. That is only 1.24% of your entire life if you live to become 80 years old. In the greater scheme of things, you still have so much going for you.
- Go have some fun — When we are down and out, our psyche is also down and out, it does not feel like doing much. When we think about doing something outside of our house, it feels like an effort. Well, here is the trick, your mind is telling you that it does want to do anything because it is depressed, but being depressed (not clinically diagnosed depression) is a choice. You can make a decision to take off the sweatpants, pack a picnic basket and go to the closest nature park or anywhere that does not resemble the city or the inside of your house. Go for a beer tasting, go tenpin bowling, go to the closest flea market on a Saturday morning, just anything to get out of the house and go have some fun. Your future you will thank you.
- Do something nice for someone else — The true and unparallel joy associated with doing something for someone else with no expectation of something in return will automatically boost your serotonin levels which will, in turn, make you happier overall.
- Join a fitness class — The health benefits of exercise have been preached about for many, many years now, but the health benefits of doing exercise with a group of like-minded people and interacting socially can not be praised enough. We are social creatures, we need people in our lives, yes even the introverts. Joining a Zumba class or a boxing class or a yoga class twice a week will automatically lift your spirit, 100% Guaranteed or your money back.
