A Practical Guide to Finding a Tech Job with Relocation in Europe

Finding tech jobs doesn't have to be difficult, but adding relocating into the mix can make it deceptively challenging. Especially when you consider that more European tech companies are casting their nets wider and choosing to bring in global talent.
However, if you're looking for a tech job, there are multiple options available that can make the entire process so much simpler. Here's a look at some of the best.
LinkedIn should be the starting point for almost any job search, and searching for tech jobs in Europe is no exception. A cursory scan of its job search section will find literally thousands of jobs available around the world, in sectors ranging from massive companies to tiny startups.
When searching, you should add the keywords “relocation” and/or “visa sponsorship” into the keywords tab, and select the country that's your choice for relocation. Here are a few links to help you get started:
- Developer jobs, relocating to Poland
- DevOps jobs, relocating to the Netherlands
- Full stack developer jobs, relocating to Germany
- Developer jobs in the EU that offer relocation packages
LinkedIn also offers another bonus in that you can set up alerts for specific job types. Whenever something meeting your criteria is posted, you'll get a ping, ensuring you're not going to miss the perfect position. Just be sure to enable the job alert switch, found at the top of the search page.
Recruiting Agencies
Like most companies, tech companies outsource a significant portion of their hiring process to outside companies. For jobseekers, recruitment agencies also offer myriad benefits. In addition to helping you find the right position, recruiters are able to fill you in on company details, including the company's hiring and relocation policies.
If you're serious about relocating for your new role, you should apply to as many recruiters as is reasonable. Here are some of the popular international recruiters in Europe:
Telegram
A cloud based messenger program with multiple options available to users, including communication channels based around site updates, news, and most importantly for us, job posts.
There are multiple Russian to English job channels dedicated entirely to relocation based positions in tech, including: Jobs Abroad, RelocateMe, and Relocats.
You don't have to join each channel to see what's available. A preview is accessible by clicking on each link, then clicking preview channel once the page has loaded.
Job Boards and Niche Websites
AngelList
AngelList has quickly become one of the prime options for people seeking out tech positions at start-up companies.
When applying, you're going to want to click the Location tab and set it to Europe or the specific country you're willing to relocate to. With that done, check the Compensation tab and look for the section marked “Company Will Sponsor Visa.”
Glassdoor
Primarily a company review app, Glassdoor also offers options for jobseekers looking for relocation.
When searching, you're going to want to type either “relocation developer” or “relocation” followed by the title of the job you're looking for. You can also add locations or other details to help filter out what you're not searching for.
Because Glassdoor doesn’t have a filter specifically for relocation, you will find some jobs that don’t offer relocation or are not quite what you are looking for in the search results. However, overall the website does a good job at filtering them out.
Relocate.me
Highly specific to what we're talking about, Relocate.me is a site built around and focused entirely on tech jobs that offer relocation. Each position offered has built-in relocation benefits, which will obviously vary based on the position and the company that offers it. You can also find varied information on the process of relocation and calculate your approximate take-home pay in different countries.
Stack Overflow Jobs
Stack Overflow's Jobs section makes finding software engineering and other IT jobs with relocation simple. Find the jobs page, click the filters tab and enable either “Visa sponsor” or “Offers relocation” to find exactly what you're looking for.
Or, for maximum simplicity, just follow this link.
GitHubs Jobs
One of the most well known tech sites, GitHub also offers job listings. When searching, you'll have better luck if you use specific terms to filter results, including:
Landing.jobs
Landing.jobs is based specifically around finding tech based employment in Europe. The company is focused heavily around Portugal, but has a healthy selection of jobs in other parts of Europe as well.
When searching, make sure to enable the filter for “visa and work permit.”
Startup.jobs
Startup based jobs are always in demand, and Startup.jobs, as the name suggests, is built entirely around this premise. The job listings focus on startups across the entire world, with relocation and remote options also available.
As usual, when searching, smart use of filters such as “relocation” and “visa” can significantly narrow down your search and make things much simpler.
JobsInTech
Designed by people in tech specifically for people in the industry, JobsInTech is an excellent option for finding relocation based job opportunities. The site has job openings from around the world, including in Europe. The simplest method for finding the ones that offer relocation/visa sponsorship is to follow this link.
Work in Estonia
This is one of the first websites you should check if you're looking to move your career to Estonia. The website lists job opportunities for both tech and non-tech professionals. Here's a link to all the IT jobs that are currently available.
Berlin Dev Jobs
The Berlin Dev Jobs is a small website that allows companies to post open dev positions in Berlin. The page is simple both to read and submit too, making it a great place to turn. When you read through the list, you will see “paid relocation” and/or “visa sponsorship” below listings to let you know about the benefit.
SwissDev Jobs
For those looking to move to Switzerland, SwissDev Jobs is a great place to turn. It allows you to easily locate software developer jobs anywhere in Switzerland. Overall the website has a nice UI and is easy to utilize. In order to filter it to only jobs with relocation, you simply need to check the filter box for “Only with Visa sponsorship.”
