the PR roundup: April 2023
Hey hey!
I always LOVE putting these PR roundups together, and even as I write this at 5am, it's still a pleasure (that's a good sign right?!) ??
So, here's what we've got coming up in this edition...
Let's dive in...
First, a little free PR event!
I'm hosting a lil free event online to show you how to find PR ideas for your business.
My FAVOURITE part will be viewers getting involved as I'll be sharing specific tactics for them too! Join me on...
May 25th at 11.30am

Pleeeeeease don't do this
When contacting the media do you just email any journalist or writer you can find and hope for the best? Please no ??
Just like finding a job or a new client - the “spray and pray” method of blasting out emails to anyone with an address really doesn’t work. For many reasons, mainly annoying journalists.?
Here's how you can actually find the right journalists and get media coverage for your biz...
?? Target journalists that cover a geographic location or your topic in general.
?? Search Twitter. Pop job titles and keywords of people you want to find into the search bar eg “Business journalist” or “Education editor”.
?? You can do the same on LinkedIn, also adding geographic location.
?? Follow them on social media or sign up to their newsletters. Get to know what they write about first OR if have a time-sensitive story (like an event next week) you could reach out right away.
?? Their direct email address may even be on their profile. Or use a website?like Hunter.io?to find them.
?? Keep a record! I use Google Sheets entitled “media hit list”. Add the topics they write about and save for future stuff. Trust me, it'll come in handy!

Got PDFs on your PC collecting dust?
I see too many people working for MONTHS on e-courses, ebooks and creating PDFs to sell "when they're ready". I have three words for you...
PRE SELL IT.
Why?
Reader questions
From Lynda...
"I have taken on some work conducting polls, asking for information from the public and importers, restaurants etc and organising 20 events and posting on social media etc. Do I need to say 'paid partnership or something in every post or can I treat these projects like I am their PR agent?"
-Well firstly I would ask this company for clarity - what is your agreement, payment details, project deliverables etc?
It sounds like you're a 'consultant' doing event management and marketing so you wouldn't need to say paid partnership in every social post as this is different. They sound like they're a paying client rather than you being an 'influencer' promoting their products in a post ??
And a big thank you!
Last month I shared how to get my PR-y templates and online training in exchange for charity donations and we raised £600 for Oakhaven Hospice in the New Forest.
A HUGE thank you to everyone who donated - you guys are awesome!
And that's it from me. If you have any Qs you'd like answered next time please comment below.
Here's the live PR event again too: www.dhirubhai.net/events/7057582211255934976
