PR for the Algorithm Age, SEO in 2025… & Online Marketing
We kicked off our first in-person client meeting of the year yesterday—finally, a break from Zoom! Along with 2025 planning, we dove into the fascinating (and mildly existential) topic of how AI is reshaping SEO. When everyone has their own version of AI focused on their own interests, how does that change the thinking around search results? One major shift is Google’s move to show AI-generated answers at the top of search results, leading to the rise of zero click?searches. The benefits are there, but the tracking is harder.??
In addition, AI tools keep changing. ChatGPT just added agents.?OpenAI on X: "Today we’re rolling out a beta version of tasks—a new way to ask ChatGPT to do things for you at a future time. The pitch of "tell ChatGPT what you need and when, and it will automatically take care of it" is great, and?Google's got their own versions coming out -?Bringing AI Agents to Enterprises with Google Agentspace.
After testing it out, it feels more like a cool party trick than a game-changer—unless you live in AI tools 24/7. It seems?very similar to many other task managers and calendars, but it's easy to see how it could evolve to help in a variety of industries.?Kevin Ertell had a nice post on how retailers may use it.?
Wikipedia for Business 2025?is coming out next Wednesday. Marketing is going full speed with social posts with countdowns (LinkedIn sample here), blog posts, webinar, etc. We’re also refreshing our Wikipedia Chaos Index for a media-friendly news hook (see the article in Capitol Communicator). The Kindle version is also available for pre-order.? ? ??
Referrals are a huge part of book marketing. If you know someone who’d love this, forward it along—we’ll gladly send a physical copy (or even Kindle gifts!). And yes, we have PDFs, but they don’t quite have the same impact :)?

Stay safe,

P.S.?Chris Long did a deep dive into the Kanye vs. Adidas SEO feud, and it’s a masterclass in Google getting it wrong. Spoiler: links still matter.
P.P.S. As part of the book launch, don't miss our webinar on, "Wikipedia in 2025: What Savvy Brand Reputation Managers Need to Know" next week.?

Smoke it flies from whisky mouths
Vagabonds walk this suitcase town
Summer left us beckoning
The cottonwoods were all worn out
Night comes fixing on the day
And the universe reigned again
While the wheels roll, it all glows a flickering light
While you were sleeping I was turning the dials
And I walled up your kingdom with radio wires
And the bells of the choir came in low and rumbling
Oh, you should have heard them
Weightlessness, no gravity
Were we somewhere in-between?
I’m a ghost of you, you’re a ghost of me
A bird’s-eye view of San Luis
Oh, highway boys all sleeping in
With their dirty mouths and broken strings
Oh, their eyes are shining like the sea
For you, the queen of San Luis
I’m a ghost of you, you’re a ghost of me

A bird’s-eye view of San Luis
Our love was untested never restin'
Slippin' through our city fingers
Always dressed up and never picked?up
Watch?every headlight cruising?past our door
Oh oh oh oh?oh
Who's gonna pick us up?
Oh oh oh ohh
The night is starting to ache
Oh oh oh oh
Who's holding the reins?
Oh oh oh ohh
And that sonar satellite
That sings to us in universe
We're just
Heart's stone but so easily broken
Like crumblin' ruins off the coast of Spain
You were a phonograph, I was a kid
I sat with an ear close, just listening
Was there when the rain tapped her way down your face
You were a miracle, I was just holding your space
Hmm
Well, time has a way of throwing it all in your face
The past, she is haunted, the future is laced
Heartbreak, you know, drives a big black car
I swear I was in the back seat, just minding my own
Hmm
Train station, I know you all too well
Tainted in salutation
And i’m going back where I belong
With the salt and the sea and the stones
Save them all for me
Train station, I know you all too well
From the boarding we all came and fell
Into your room
The tracks raced beneath our feat
Through square windows, so clean
Well I could see them walking away
I belong with the salt and the sea and the stones
Save them all for me
