PPSS Group - Why do we do what we do?

Sadly, we live in a world where many homeland and private security professionals must wear stab resistant body armour.

To comprehend that we must design and produce such things to protect people from harm, is mind boggling for some. I think most of us law abiding citizens, could all collectively agree that we shouldn’t have to have such items in our society, but sadly, we do.

In the year leading up to March 2021, there were 44,286 ‘knife or sharp implement offences’ recorded in England and Wales. Surprisingly, this number is a 15% decrease in the previous year, however, it’s not all good news. This decrease has been linked to the corona virus pandemic, where social restrictions and lockdowns have been in place. As the years leading up to 2020, 2015 – 2020, show there was a 78% increase. I think this decrease in knife and sharp implement offences is probably one of the few good things that will come out of this pandemic.

Of those 44,286 offences I mentioned, a shrewd way to demonstrate the gravitas could be, to work out daily offences, that would mean 121 offences per day, shocking to say the least. Over 10,000 of those offences were in London. It would seem, the Mayor of London’s Knife Crime Strategy published in June 2017 is not working.

In the year leading up to March 2020, there were 275 police recorded murders involving knives and sharp instruments in England, 23 of those murders were children aged 17 or younger.

The attack on two paramedics in July 2020, carrying out a welfare check on an individual living in Wolverhampton shocked the nation. One of the Paramedics spent three days in hospital with a punctured lung due to stab wounds to her chest. Thankfully a Police Officer was on hand and swiftly tasered the individual and stopped the attack progressing further.

I think by now, I’ve given you enough reasons as to why we do what we do. Since the inception of PPSS Group in 2009, Robert Kaiser, the CEO and founder has led a passionate and knowledgeable mission to protect our frontline workers and campaign for their safety. Since 2009 the journey for PPSS Group has been epic, the development of our body armour has taken years to reach its most effective version with the launch of our carbon fibre body armour in 2020. Offering truly outstanding blunt force trauma protection, our body armour comes with official certification for UK CAST KR1/SP1 as well as Germany’s VPAM W5 (100 joules of protection from blunt force trauma).

The release of our Cut-Tex? PRO slash and cut resistant fabric in 2011 paved the way for our very own BitePRO?, CutPRO? and SlashPRO? protective brands of clothing and equipment to reach its worldwide audience of users it has today. We appreciate so much the positive feedback we receive from our customers, and we relish working with them on new and exciting ideas to further our goals of protecting our at-risk workers.

We are a small, but mighty team of professionals. We have operational members in our team, with police and military backgrounds, some still serving. We have a highly trained and diligent sales team, striving to meet the needs of our dynamic customer base.

Sobering stats Richard and critical why many different industry sectors must consider quality protective equipment that will actually work effectively, as well as the wider general public being honest, especially with the huge increase in mental health illness and the thankfully rare but nonetheless possible chances of being slashed or stabbed in random attacks.
