?#Corrosion ?is a problem in metal pipes systems which is referred to as oxidation by powerful anion which leads to increased roughness in the inner face of pipes and decreases the allowable discharge of fluid,
#Incrustation ?on the other hand is the deposition of flowing fluid on the surface of a metal pipe decreasing the cross-section area of the pipe and for the same velocity of flow may lead to reduced discharge. Studies have shown that?incrustation?can increase water pump energy consumption to 160% within 2 years that can cause direct increased energy costs for those building owners who installed steel pipe
?·????????The advantages of PP-R and PP-RCT piping systems over traditional metal piping
Safety of potable water (when certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61) and long-term reliability (when certified to NSF/ANSI 14*) Resistance to corrosion, tuberculation, and deposits. Resistance to chlorine and chloramine disinfectants. Durability and toughness to survive jobsite installations Heat-fused joints mean that no flame, glue, or solvents are used for joining. Lightweight, easy to fabricate off-site, transport, and handle on the job. Typically reduced product and installation costs as compared with metallic piping systems. A natural insulator, with low thermal conductivity. No scrap value, avoiding job site theft. Available in a wide range of sizes *Piping products are typically certified to NSF/ANSI 14 for physical, performance, and health effects requirements
?The extrapolated service life for PPR-CT pipe systems is typically over 50 years extending to 100 years. Our entire system is made only from polypropylene (no metallic parts, solvents/glues etc) and will not corrode, erode or scale. This is also a benefit during the life cycle, as no build-up can occur on the pipe’s internal walls, and the pump costs and flow rates are sustained throughout the whole life cycle. Within the attached, please see the file labelled “Pipe heat losses PP-R-Steel DIN EN 10220” which shows the potential savings which have been achieved from a previous project.
?All PPR-CT products are covered by a 10 year manufacturer warranty. The warranty starts on the day of pressure testing and covers damage to property, personal injuries and financial losses up to a value of €20,000,000 (warranty extensions are available for particular projects).
?The manufacturing process of steel produces three times as much carbon as PPR-CT, and copper produces almost eight times as much.
?An important component of PPR-CT’s corporate success is consistent environmental protection. Therefore, all processes focus on conserving resources, minimizing energy use, and avoiding or recycling waste. For example, the waste resulting from the production process is recycled to the greatest possible extent and then processed into new products. This is made possible by our material, polypropylene: it is characterized not only by a long life, but also by a very good environmental compatibility and recyclability. The cooling water required for the production is drawn from the local river and does not experience any chemical contamination and is returned to the water cycle unchanged.
?In addition to complying with legal requirements and regulations, we have committed ourselves to a continuous and systematic improvement in environmental performance. This is confirmed by, among other things, our ISO-certified environmental and energy management systems. Through various measures, both large and small, we work every day to reduce electricity and water consumption as well as CO2 emissions within the production process.

?This results in the use of PPR-CT on projects being able to provide LEED v4 / BREEAM points via our NSF-accredited EPD.
Velocity restrictions are necessary for metal pipes to avoid erosion-corrosion. Due to the natural noise attenuation of the PPR-CT pipe and the natural ability of the pipe to absorb the forces of water hammer, as well as the full bore diameter of the fittings, we can increase the velocities of the flow in the pipe without compromising the ability of the pipe to prevent noise generation and water hammer.
PPR-CT has published pressure loss and velocity tables to around 4.6 m/sec. far higher than any metallic pipe system can provide.
PPR-CT has allowed engineers to design as high as 6.10 m/sec. depending on the job and design. This allowance comes with a caveat to ensure that there will not be any quick-acting valves or other sources of surge pressures in the system. In other words, it is permissible to design to the higher velocities for the pipe material, but the other materials within the system may not be able to handle the higher velocities in terms of pressure surges, water hammer or noise issues.
?Major benefits (PPR-CT pipes are free from erosion-corrosion and incrustation)
?Assembly and joining of this system is performed by heat fusion. Fusion joints are made by heating and melting the pipe and fitting together. This type of joint gives a homogeneous transition between the two components without the lowering of chemical resistance associated with solvent cement joining and without the loss of integrity and loss of pressure handling ability of a threaded joint.?
?Polypropylene is light and has a degree of deflection making it easy to manoeuvre and around unforeseen obstructions, the ability to have some degree of deflection during an installation is an advantage.
?The weight of our pipe systems is substantially lighter than steel equivalents, which enables less labour, machinery and tooling. In some instances this allows operatives to carry lengths rather than use machinery or a crane.
?Jointing times are quicker, for instance, a 10” butt fusion joint would take roughly 30 minutes. This includes the cool down time as well, so with two machines with 2 operatives you could get 2 no. 10” joints completed and ready for pressure testing after 30 minutes.
?We have the widest array of fittings available of any PP-R manufacturer and offer a custom prefabrication service. If you require specific degree bends or even an entire system prefabricated, we can offer that service in our in-house prefabrication department.
?
?PPR-CT polypropylene has a thermal conduction value of 0.15 W/mK which is significantly lower compared to steel (54 W/mK) and copper (401 W/mK).
?
? (we have seen many steel pipes recently are very low quality and we have seen many issues)
?At PPR-CT are very proud of the extensive quality control processes in place and have received many awards around the world.
?ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, DIN guidelines, DVGW (working sheets) and supervisory regulations of the SKZ are just a small part of the standards adhered to in the production process. Not only are there extremely high levels of internal control, but external supervision from SKZ and the Institute for Hygiene (Gelsenkirchen) are also part of our quality assurance process.
?Additionally, various national and international independent authorities and institutions such as Lloyds Register, NSF, WRAS, USP Class VI (the most stringent medical device testing accepted by the FDA and USDA) and many more confirm PPR-CT’s quality standards.
