PPC News
Week 11 (14th - 20th March 2022)
Google Ads
- Google detailed a host of new gaming ad features at its?Google for Games Developer Summit 2022, including new App campaigns that allow you to pre-register your app. (see conference video)
- Due to regulation concerns, Google announced they're expanding their free hotel booking links from hotels and online travel agencies to Google.com and Google Maps. (source)
Interesting discussions
- Scott Carruthers and Ginny Marvin discussed how Exact Match keywords are prioritized between Search Campaigns and Performance Max campaigns.
“The Exact match keyword will only take precedence when it is eligible to show, so when your impression share is less than 100% (if you've run out of budget, or your bids are too low), then Performance Max can show for that keyword in the remaining auctions. e.g. if you have a keyword that has a 50% impression share due to low bids, then Performance Max can show in the remaining 50% of auctions for that keyword.” (see post)
- Smart Shopping was partially adopted due to its exceptional performances, but are you planning to move back to Traditional Shopping campaigns or follow the move to Performance Max?
“I’m hearing from numerous people about moving back to Standard Shopping. Query strategies, etc. Automation of shopping was a step brands were hesitant but okay with when perf was there. But layering on DSA and jumping into search traffic… esp brand? Too close to the sun.” (Kirk Williams)
Google Analytics
- Universal Analytics (GUA or GA3) will stop processing data on July 1st, 2023.
You’ll be able to see your reports for a period after that date, but new information only goes into Google's analytics system and there is no migration planned. (source)
This is a big deal because It requires time and effort to implement new tags (incl. conversions), adapt existing reports, and educate clients about the new interface. Timo Dechau explains well the required mindset to Migrate GUA to GA4 in his latest post.
- This announcement comes with several new features for GA4:
“This was previously only available in GA360(enterprise) and is now available in the standard (free) version of GA4 for everyone.” (Charles Farina)
- Charles also reported about the new support page that shares how and why Google shares data across multiple data centres and locations. A GDPR breakthrough in your opinion?

Microsoft Ads
- It's been a year since Microsoft beat Google in Automotive Ads, and now the feature is open for all advertisers worldwide, especially for advertisers in Asia-Pacific and Latin America markets.
- In addition to the Bing search, image, and video results pages, Automotive Ads are now displaying in places like the Microsoft Audience Network, Windows search bar, and the?Microsoft Autos Marketplace, as well as, search partners like Yahoo! and DuckDuckGo. (source)
- Microsoft Audience Networks are also expected to be expanded in Hong-Hong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam by end of March.
LinkedIn Ads
- JD Garcia is right to mention that, “instead of building a matched audience from people that visit your website (which, can be difficult because of cookies), you can now retarget people who either clicked, liked, or commented on your ad” (see post)
Marketing Industry
- After 15 years, Google Domains is finally out of?beta! You can get the coupon (DOMAINS20) for your clients. (source)
- Meta is fine a small $18.6 million over 12 GDPR-related data breaches by failing "to have in place appropriate technical and organizational measures which would enable it to readily demonstrate the security measures that it implemented in practice to protect EU users' data." (source)
- Following Twitter, Reddit, and OnlyFans, Instagram is preparing to add non-fungible tokens (NFTs), according to Mark Zuckerberg. (source)
- Amazon has closed its $8.45-billion acquisition of Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM), which could add value to Amazon Prime customers. Still, let’s wait for the FTC decision (source)
