The powers of movement to help your emotional wellbeing levels

The powers of movement to help your emotional wellbeing levels

The last five years have quite possibly been the most challenging for me and my emotional wellbeing. Its by no coincidence that really my way of coping and dealing with my mental health, has and still continues to be via movement and thus so after teaching movement and Pilates for the last 18 years, I began the very organic development and creation of two movement based wellbeing programs called Free Your Spine (https://www.freeyourspinepilates.com ) and City is my Playground (https://cityismyplayground.com/)

In these programs, I wanted to bridge the gap between my movement and Pilates background and create an offering to serve peoples physical and emotional wellbeing.

Just to hone in on Free your Spine at this moment, and in another post I can talk about City is my Playground...

FYS experiences are different, designed to help people come out of their shells and express themselves and their creativity. For too long everyday, people are inactive and stuck in unhealthy positions and postures, due to their sedentary jobs or via postural habits which aren’t serving them like wearing a heavy bag on one shoulder or repetitive phone usage. These behaviours will have massive impact on our musculoskeletal system and our overall feel good vibes in our backs. I’m here to heed this cry, and bring joy and freedom back to your spine. You’ll thank me for it in years to come!

As our lives have got busier and busier, we’ve all fallen into roles we think we should fit into to conform to society. This has very much been my own personal experience and I have ran into many hurdles when I let "the shoulders sap into my goals, dreams and desires."

We’ve also forgotten how to express ourselves and release the playfulness within all of us. I coax this out by helping you get in touch with your bodies innate way of moving, with creativity and playfulness. I want you to leave my classes refreshed, energised and inspired, with fresh eyes for your day ahead

The FYS method itself blends yoga inspired stretches, Pilates inspired core stabilisation exercises, and spinal based creative movements. You will be guided through a series of movement flows that that will unlock tensions from your upper and lower back as well as release and open up your hips.

As we move through very difficult times, politically, environmentally, socially and emotionally, I think there has never been a more important time to take personal responsibility to implement self care practices into place to to sustain our emotioanl wellbeing. My SC practices have always had a heavy dose of movement. What are yours?

My ongoing lesson is that to be the best for others, it's helpful to stride or take baby steps towards being the best we can be for ourselves. That means looking after ourselves, asking for help, surrounding ourselves with a community of like minded people, getting creative, moving more, mixing in more daily play, and so on and so forth. Your best will vary from my best and from the next persons best. Do make sure you check in with yourself on the daily to ask yourself "what can I do today to ensure I am being the best for me first and foremost and therefore inadvertently work towards being the finest human I can be for my family, friends and colleagues or any other community you intend on impacting, supporting, helping or serving.
