POWERPOINT PRESENTATION TIPS

POWERPOINT PRESENTATION TIPS

Have you ever been to a presentation which has been a cure for insomnia?

Worse!! Have you made such presentations?

Numbers 2 and 10 are the ones that I see so many times being abused.

Which are your favourite ones?

POWERPOINT PRESENTATION TIPS

?1.????????? The PowerPoint information is an aid to your presentation, not a crutch.

If people are more interested in the information on the screen than what you have to say, you have a problem.

2.????????? Uncover one item at a time. Concentrates people's thoughts on what you are saying and prevents them jumping ahead.

3.????????? Don’t ever apologise for a slide, such as “This one’s hard to read”. If it’s hard to read why do you have it there in the first place?

4.????????? Don't indicate a feature using a pointer on the projector screen. Use a pointer on the laptop screen, this way you face the audience and avoid having your back to the audience talking to the projector screen.

5.????????? Don't “cram” the slide with detail. Keep to one concept per visual

6.????????? Use “key” words and present on these “Bulleted” points

7.????????? Use no more than four words per line, less is better.

Generally, I have one word per line.

8.????????? Use approximately five lines per slide. It is better to go to two slides than have 10 points on a slide

9.????????? Emphasise words and information by blowing them up a few points. Make them a different colour.

10.?????? Never ever have sentences on the slide and then read them to your audience. (unless they are illiterate or don’t understand English). If you show a sentence (such as a quote) stop talking and let people read it. Make reference of its relevance to your presentation.

11.?????? Be wary of using too fancy a background, it can be distracting and serves no purpose. You can’t go wrong with a white background.

12.?????? Check that the presentation will look good via the data projector. What may look good on your laptop screen may not translate to the big screen.

Happy Presentations
