Powerleague powered by GAS Music
GAS Music have written and produced the music for Lucozade Powerleague’s 5-a-side football re-branding campaign. The rebrand forms part of a £40 million expansion plan – Powerleague plans to open 13 new centres in southeast England in the next three years and has ambitions to become ‘the undisputed home of five-a-side’ in Britain and abroad.
Designed by Manchester-based creative agency Music they have created 50 contemporary crest designs in collaboration with the players, the crests feature a wide range of motifs that draw from the personality, history and geography of the teams and their communities.
Inspired by heraldic tradition, many of the designs reference the location’s coat of arms, such as the salmon from Glasgow’s coat of arms, the Wigan sparrowhawk, and a stag for Derby. Amsterdam’s crest appropriates the city’s signature three crosses. While others, like Nottingham’s use of an arrow fletching and Stoke’s nuclear power station, reference emblems of their history and economy.
The Lucozade Powerleague branding, featured on the mast of the crests, serves as a unifying element.
“This is what football is really about, getting people together, creating a tribe and instilling local pride,” says Music creative director David Simpson. “Wherever you live and whoever you follow, the passion and energy behind football can be distilled into a powerful icon – the club crest.”
"We love football and we love music and we thoroughly enjoyed the combined loves as we produced a track which has the pace and style of the film and the Powerleague brand and ethic," says Gary Hilton director at GAS Music.
