Benefits of powering your electric vehicle with solar energy
The benefits of using solar energy extend even further when paired with an electric vehicle (EV). Harnessing the sun to power your vehicle saves you money, benefits the electric grid,?and?can provide backup power to your home. In honor of National Drive Electric Week, learn about the five ways your EV could be solar powered and the many benefits generated by combining solar power with EV technology.
What EERE is funding
DOE invested $72 million in 29 projects that will modernize domestic manufacturing processes for wind and water technologies and accelerate equitable and sustainable wind deployment. These projects will focus on streamlining the processes that produce wind and hydropower,?reduce the barriers for communities that deploy offshore and distributed wind energy technologies, and lessen impacts on wildlife.
DOE launched a first-of-its-kind?Critical Materials Collaborative (CMC) and announced its?intent to fund up to $10 million to establish a Critical Materials Accelerator Program. The Critical Materials Accelerator Program will be one of several pathways developed through the CMC to de-risk innovation and mature technology development in partnership with industry.
DOE continues to empower energy-burdened communities with more than $18 million in the second round of Communities LEAP (Local Energy Action Program), a technical assistance program that supports community-driven energy transitions. This opportunity will support up to 32 low-income, energy-burdened communities that are either disadvantaged or experiencing direct economic impacts from a shift away from fossil fuels.?Applications are due November 30.
Floating Offshore Wind
About two-thirds of the nation’s offshore wind energy potential blows over waters too deep to secure wind turbines to the ocean floor. A report published by DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory identifies the steps needed to develop the infrastructure in ports with commercial scale floating offshore wind energy potential.

How to meet the rising demand for sustainable aviation fuel
To improve sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supply chains, EERE’s Bioenergy Technologies Office is requesting information from stakeholders, as part of the SAF Grand Challenge Roadmap. The goal is to identify opportunities and challenges that will meet the rising SAF demand. Responses are due November 2.
Share your clean energy story
DOE is collecting short selfie videos from community members about how clean energy technology is helping you. To get started, several question prompts are provided, and self-guided video instructions are included.
Clean Energy Success Story
When scouting for a large-scale solar array site, developers look for land with even terrain to reduce the need for expensive grading. Nevados Engineering used $2 million in funding from EERE’s Solar Energy Technologies Office to develop technology that opened up sites considered too rough or rugged for solar, easing land-use conflicts and cutting costs and timelines for developers.
