Powering West Africa's Clean Energy Transition, Asiko Energy Chief Executive & NLPGA President Joins Speaker Lineup at Gas Investment Forum 2024

Mr. Felix Ekundayo, Managing Director of Asiko Energy Holdings Limited & the President of the Nigeria Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association, will speak at the Gas Investment Forum – West Africa’s premier event for driving investment in the gas sector taking place from 21–22 October in Lagos, Nigeria. Mr. Ekundayo's participation is expected to drive dialogue around opportunities for for growth and investment in the LPG market and share strategies for collaboration, partnerships and synergy between the government and private sector in driving Nigeria's decade of gas agenda.

Under Mr. Ekundayo's leadership, Asiko Energy Holdings Limited is building Nigeria’s first tri-product (Propane, LPG and LNG) gas terminal. The Group is increasing its investment in the midstream and downstream sectors of the gas industry. Upon completion, the dual-liquefied gas terminal will be capable of receiving, storing, and distributing both Propane, LPG and LNG.

With a vision to unlock the region’s clean energy potential by creating a future where sustainable, accessible, and innovative energy solutions power progress and prosperity, AEHL provide propane and natural gas power generation while its subsidiary Gas Terminalling owns assets in LPG distribution with over 100 trucks its fleet or operated for third parties.

In 2023, AEHL signed a contract with NLNG to distribute LNG. This development has enabled AEHL to operate along the value chains of three different gases: natural gas, LPG and propane.

AEHL will be the first entity in Nigeria to distribute propane, LPG and LNG simultaneously. This according to AEHL is a deliberate investment in equipment that can use all three gases.

To accelerate energy transition and support the National Gas Expansion Programme (NGEP), Asiko Energy Holding Limited announced an autogas adoption and utilisation trial in Kano.

The autogas trial project resulted in the conversion of two minibuses and five Keke Napep vehicles from a petrol-powered engine to a dual fuel (LPG and petrol) engine. The conversion was done over two a 2-week period, with no financial obligation or expense incurred by the vehicle owners or operators.

The autogas filling station is a significant part of the project and was built to enable a successful trial and study. The autogas station, housed within the premises of AEHL gas facility in Bompai Kano, can dispense LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) to facilitate convenient refuelling for the converted buses and Keke Napep. Through this trial, Asiko is expected to significantly lower operational costs for vehicle owners and operators by up to 40%.

As the President of NLPGA, Mr. Ekundayo has also been instrumental in driving policies and initiatives that have reshaped the LPG landscape in Nigeria. Under his profound leadership, the NLPGA has been involved pivotal activities that has enhanced policy advocacy which has successfully pushed for favorable government policies that support the growth of the LPG industry, including incentives for infrastructure development and regulatory reforms.

In the area of capacity building, the NLPGA has also implemented comprehensive training programs aimed at building local capacity and expertise in the LPG sector, thereby fostering job creation and skill development.

Under this leadership, safety standards have been top priority in promoted stringent safety standards and best practices within the industry, ensuring the safe handling, storage, and distribution of LPG to minimize risks and enhance consumer confidence.

Gas Investment Forum 2024 promises to be an enlightening and impactful event, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss and strategize on the future of Nigeria’s gas sector.
