Powering Productivity: Aluminum Solutions' New High-Voltage Electrical Substation

ABC Aluminum Solutions has just integrated a 32-megawatt electrical substation into its plant to boost productivity. By doing so, it has upgraded its network from medium to high voltage to integrate new specialized machinery into its production line.

After almost 30 years of operation as one of the main aluminum producers in Mexico, ABC Aluminum Solutions continues its operational growth with new plants and the incorporation of technology that allows it to respond to an increasingly broad and demanding market.

Keeping up with these demands requires not only the ability to respond quickly but also energy. Operating specialized machinery, integrating new equipment with the necessary dimensions and energy demands for the extrusion and manufacturing of larger and larger parts requires a dedicated high-voltage network.

32 Megawatts for a New Stage in Aluminum Production

With the installation of the exclusive electrical substation at the Santa Fe plant in Tijuana, we convert, regulate, and distribute energy to the necessary voltage, while also returning clean energy to the Federal Electricity Commission's network.

Ensuring On-Time Delivery with a New High-Voltage Substation

According to the engineers in charge of the project, this new substation is a major achievement that puts ABC Aluminum Solutions among the few companies in the industrial sector in the northwest of Mexico with this type of plant. With this state-of-the-art infrastructure in place, we can now power all our processes and facilities, protecting them from sudden voltage changes or power outages that that delay production.

"The company's expansion in its extrusion, anodizing, casting, and other new processes required a high-voltage supply of 18, 24, and 30 megawatts. This relieves the medium-voltage network for the use of other industries connected to the network," said Engineer Nelson Román Reyes.

With a more stable supply, processes are more reliable and deadlines are easier to meet. The substation will be operational by mid-2023 and will not be the only project carried out by ABC Aluminum Solutions, as it is in the company's plans to convert all its plants to high-voltage mode to continue guaranteeing a lighter future for the market.
