Powerful Hurricane Twin Turbo I-6 adds another award!
The 3.0-liter Hurricane Twin Turbo I-6, engine engineered to deliver more power and greater efficiency than larger V-8 engines, continues to build its legend. Today, the High Output (540 hp) version of this robust, high-tech engine earned a spot on the prestigious Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems list. WardsAuto editors tested the Hurricane Twin Turbo HO in the 2025 Ram 1500 Tungsten pickup.
This is the second time in its young history that the aluminum Hurricane Twin Turbo has been recognized, first earning the honor in 2022. It also marks the eighth consecutive year a Stellantis powertrain has been among the 10 best propulsion systems selected by Wards, a testament to the innovation and performance focus of the Stellantis Propulsion Systems engineering team.
“We engineered our Hurricane twin turbo engines to be powerful, efficient, robust and versatile, delivering performance that enhances the driving experience both on- and off-road, and while towing,” said Micky Bly, Head of Global Propulsion Systems of Stellantis.
Starting with a clean sheet for design, Stellantis propulsion engineers used innovative computerized design technologies to optimize airflow through the engine, enhancing power and torque. They backed that up with innovative technologies, including:
Today, the Hurricane Twin Turbo I-6, available in both 420 hp (Standard Output) and 540 hp (High Output) versions, powers vehicles like the Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Future applications include the next-generation Dodge Charger.
