DATA IN THE SOUTH WEST

This week, me and the Data3 team spent our time discussing the world of data, AI, chatbots and the rest at our panel event on the SS Great Britain called ‘Harnessing the latest technology to drive innovation, power your organisation and fuel your growth’. It was so much fun…!

The highlights for me were…

• you need clean data and good use cases…but using the latest tech for PR purposes is also allowed too (my points!)
• you need to be careful of hidden and unintended bias and focus on the people more than tech (Joyann’s points)
• you need to build a culture of innovation where experimentation and ideas are encouraged, and where failures are celebrated (Caroline’s points)
• you need to enable innovation within your business through innovation days, time, processes and even lego! (Rik’s points)
• and you need an expert facilitator in the shape of Dan to create a bouncy, fun panel with lots of audience engagement.

I LOVE seeing examples of good/bad/funny data visualisations, data wins, data mistakes, and more.?

This time, Helen Ward, our marketing lead, has found some gems at The 30 Best Data Visualizations of 2023 [Examples] (visme.co)...

• some are beautiful - see #3 on the ancient wonders of the world and #18 which is an amazing visual of the solar system
• some tell a simple story - see #13 on water consumption
• some are scary - see #5 on the top 5 nuclear explosions
• and some are beautiful and scary - see #6 on visualising the history of pandemics

They are all absolutely fascinating and must have taken a very long time to create.
