Peer leaders have emerged through having members of this diverse group, ages 55 to 82, share their stories, poetry, and reservoir of knowledge. Their collaborative vision is to help make Vancouver and other cities “Age-Friendly”.

Launched in 2019 with co-funding by the City of Vancouver and the 411 Senior Center Society, the project's mission is to initiate and support the transfer of technology to seniors while enabling them to transform current notions of seniors as helpless, confused, unhealthy, or “a tax drain”. Ferrell, a retired college professor, and author, regularly encourages group members to be bold enough to invite community leaders, legislative officials, senior activists, and creative artists to make presentations about services, policies, or programs relevant to seniors. Past discussions include Feelings about feelings; Zentangle storytelling; Walkability city challenges; Money matters; and Closing the digital divide.PBA hosts panel presentations for special occasions, such as International Day for older people; Black History Month; Indigenous People’s Day; Pride Week, and International Women’s Day. Recently it presented a Tribute to Charanpal Gill, an Order of Canada honoree whose selfless activism was praised in testimonials by 411Center Board Chair, Marion Pollack; MLA-Speaker of the House (BC), Hon. Raj Chauhan: Sarwan Boal of the WCB AppealsTribunal: and Harinder Mahil of the Canadian Farm Workers’ Union CFWU.This “zoomcast”, like several others, periodically, was aired during Sista C’s SpeakUp, Listen Up, Act Upon” Friday CJSF FM radio show. All of PBA’s episodes may be heard on the PoweredbyAge.com website, anchor.FM podcast platform and six other popular podcast sites.  Aside from welcoming ‘regular’ podcast participants to bring something creative to the “Podcast Table”, Ferrell has also invited members of PBA’s production team to do something special. Robin Eriksson, podcast mentor, and Program Coordinator at CJSF will tell a story and facilitate other storytellers; Joel Flynn, whose Podstream company helped launch the PBA program, will present a virtual music selection; Jesse Wentzloff, PBA tech trainer, and SpokenWord Coordinator at CJSF will spin some music to initiate a “‘move it-move it’” segment for our podcasts; Sista C will share a new Choose to Challenge poem and facilitate other poets. This event will also be PBA’s first live connection to its YouTube channel where friends can connect and comment.
