The Power of Your Subconscious Mind: How to Visualize and Create Success

What do you think is the primary driver of your success in life? Is it your skills, talent, knowledge, or practical experience??

While we can’t leave those off the table, there’s one factor that we tend to underestimate time and time again: mindset. I say “underestimate” because most of us?know?our mindset matters. Yet, we spend very little consistent time or effort working to understand and improve it!

Let’s talk a little about the crucial connection between mindset, behavior, and outcomes and how to visualize your way to greater success in your life and career.

The Power of Your Subconscious Mind

Remember when you learned to drive a car?

At first, you had to think about how and when to push the right pedal and concentrate hard on staying in the right lane, but once you got the hang of it, muscle memory kicked in, and you no longer had to try so hard. This simple example demonstrates a little of how the subconscious mind works: it’s like a data bank of thought patterns that drive what you do on autopilot.

But it goes much deeper than that!

Your subconscious mind shapes your paradigm (i.e. basically, your framework for viewing life in general and specific circumstances) and consistently aligns your behavior with it. That explains why bad habits are so hard to break; they often stem from internalized belief systems that become part of your programming.

If you’re desperate to transform your life and career but constantly find yourself hitting an invisible wall, your subconscious mind is probably the culprit!

Reshaping Your?Subconscious Mind Through Visualization

Without deliberate mindset work, your subconscious mind tends to work against rather than for you. Research has shown this is mainly because your brain is hardwired to protect you through?negative bias . The good news is that there are many ways to train your mind to think positively, which will impact your behavior and help you reach your goals.?

Visualization is one technique to get you started!

WHAT IS VISUALIZATION?

Visualization taps into your imagination and trains your subconscious mind to focus on the end goal or outcome of what you want to achieve. This technique helps your brain unlearn old, debilitating thought patterns and replace them with new, positive auto-responses. Athletes are prime examples of professionals who use?imagery to enhance their performance .

5?VISUALIZATION TECHNIQUES FOR SUCCESS

You can learn how to visualize positive outcomes using practices designed to engage all five of your senses:

  1. Get crystal clear on paper?

Write down what success looks like to you in granular detail. It’s tempting to keep it all in your head, but?research shows ?writing your goals down significantly increases your chances of success.

  1. Meditate on your desired outcomes

Take time daily to find a quiet spot, close your eyes, and picture your end desires as already achieved. How are you feeling, acting, speaking, and even dressing now that you’ve finally accomplished your goal? Be as vivid as possible.

  1. Surround yourself with visual stimuli

It also helps to change what you physically see in your environment. For instance, you can create a vision board or update your phone or desktop wallpapers with inspiring images that capture your ideal life and career. You can also stimulate your imagination about these things by changing up your home or office decor.

  1. Change your self-talk:

No one’s words matter more than your own. Your subconscious mind is hardcoded to pay more attention to your inner?self-talk ?than external statements, which is why so many people struggle to accept and internalize compliments. Change what you’re saying to change what you’re seeing!?

  1. Stay curious

Inspiration inevitably fades, which often leads to complacency. But complacency dulls the imagination, so you need to rekindle the flame now and again. How? By staying curious. Keep asking questions. Get uncomfortable once in a while. Talk to people with different perspectives. Explore your surroundings.

Jen Slagle, PCC, great tips in this article. I especially love the focus on self-talk. We can often be our own worst enemy with the messages we're telling ourselves. We need to be our own champion first!
