The Power of Your Ripple Effect (Part 1/3) - Diamyn Hall

May I ask you a question? Are you a human? Do you have a family? Do you interact with people on a daily basis? Do you mentor people? Do you coach people? Do you lead people?

If you said "yes" to any of these questions,

then read every line of this article from beginning to end

because I wrote this specifically for you...

A long time ago, when I first started coaching and leading, one of my mentors shared a quote with with me that stuck with me forever:

“The greatest gift that you can give another human is the gift of your presence.”

Then they went on to say,

"But in order to really understand this, first you have to understand the two biggest problems that people face during their lives as leaders, coaches, and as human beings regardless of age...you probably are currently facing one of these or both...

  • Problem #1: They fail to understand how much of an impact their radiance and ripple effect has on the people who they come in close proximity with every day.
  • Problem #2: They simply have no idea how to be intentional with how they show up on a daily basis OR they are 'ok' with consistently showing up by chance instead of by choice."

As a leader,?

Have you ever been around someone who was so stressed, you started to feel their stress rub off on you? How about someone who was beaming with so much positivity and energy that you couldn’t help but “catch” their vibes?

It’s almost like their emotions were contagious

The truth is, they actually are!

It’s called EMOTIONAL CONTAGION...

Emotional contagion is when one person's emotions or actions directly trigger similar emotions in others.?

Behavioral neuroscience tells me that you and I have mirror neurons in our brains that are constantly paying attention to the emotional state of others - and once they identify the emotions, they mirror and mimic them. This is what leads to us “catching” those emotions too.

  • Here's a perfect example...Think of a time when someone was gossiping about others or complaining about their work and it left a bad taste in your mouth. It sticks with you…One study found that without even realizing it, you can spread that same negativity to your partner over dinner, and they can spread that negativity to their colleagues the next day at work.

While we can be affected by the emotions of those around us, they can be influenced by ours too...?

  • For example, when you snap at someone, chances are their spouse, friend, or child will be subject to the ripple effects of your action.
  • The same is true when you hold the door open for someone, it may inspire a willingness for them to do so for the next person or to extend a different kindness that would not have existed without your influence.

"Like a pebble dropped into a lake, our actions ripple out into the world around us. Each ripple influences what it encounters, which in turn ripples out even farther."?

(read that quote one more time...)

This ability of yours

to influence the world around you...

is called YOUR RADIANCE!

As I mentioned in my first article,

Leaders Set The Tone!

SO HERE'S THE QUESTION TO CONSIDER:

As leaders, how can we (you and I) practically use this knowledge to show up as the best versions of ourselves while in turn using our radiance and ripple effect to positively impact those we lead on a daily basis?

?? Over the next 2 weeks I’ll create two mini articles with the 6 practical keys that answer this question. I think you'll enjoy them. Just a heads up, I will be challenging you to put at least one of the practical keys into action within 24 hours after you read the article so prepare yourself ??.

The purpose of my newsletter is for you and I to:

  1. BE MORE (learn & grow)
  2. DO MORE (commit & take action)
  3. ACHIEVE MORE (win & accomplish)
  4. GIVE MORE (contribute & serve) THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT

In the meantime, subscribe to the newsletter so you can receive a notification when I release part 2 next Tuesday or Wednesday morning!
