Power on your FORCE FIELD
"The future depends on what you do today" - Mahatma Gandhi
How do reinforce your bubble, your force field from all of the negativity that hits you during the week? How do you ensure that your force field propels the negative and absorbs the positive?
Your week is like a cell phone battery, the further away you get from your recharge (weekend) the more you are drained. Think about times when you hit Friday, totally exhausted and happy to be done for the week vs. times when the week flew by, you felt totally energized and happy. What was the difference?
Just as you plug your phone in when not in use during the day/week to keep a charge, there are ways to protect yourself and keep your "internal charge" going all week. Your goal is not to be in a state of exhaustion by Friday night, but rather in a state of rest and relaxation. The weekend should be a time of enjoyment with family and friends, for personal reflection, self-care and development. Every day you are bombarded with negativity (especially during election season), some days you're better prepared for it than others. The further you get from your recharge, the more vulnerable you are to negativity and poor choices. What you do in-between will help you personally and professionally if you are able to make very small life changes that will have a giant impact on you, your family, Potrero, and your friends. Create a "force field" to bounce negativity away and allow you to be personally happy and professionally satisfied. There are ways for you to make this force field nearly impenetrable.
Just like running a long race, if you properly train, have great hydration and nutrition plans, and rest heading into the race, you will experience a euphoria when you hit the finish line. How do you replicate that euphoria throughout the week? How do you protect yourself from the negative?
1. Rest - Eight hours if possible, of great rest. The 30 minutes prior to sleep and the 30 minutes when you wake up are critical. Try this next tip for a week, resist under all circumstances to look at your phone 30 minutes before bed and 30 minutes after you wake up. Dedicate that 1 hour of time to you. Focus your brain on resting and waking. Probably without realizing it, you are feeding your subconscious with "brain junk food" when you look at your phone, especially prior to sleep.
2. Hydration & Nutrition - Stay hydrated throughout the day, provide your cells with the necessary water, your skin will glow ?? and you will be happier. For diet, each of us is different in our dietary needs. Make good decisions here and focus on moderation, not necessarily restriction. Be smart about it and know this is the fuel that powers the engine and reinforces your force field.
3. Exercise - Flood your brain with endorphins. Exercise your body so the blood flows all the way to your fingertips and toes. This is perhaps one of the greatest secrets to a daily recharge. Deliberate exercise and movement that gets your cells vibrating and push oxygen to your muscles, tissue, and brain. You will feel great and think clearly when you make this a daily ritual.
4. Positive thinking - This sounds simple and straightforward, however it is difficult to master. This requires mental discipline. For every negative thought you have, respond with 10x in positive thoughts. Force yourself to think of 10 things that are positive in your life. Initially it will be tough, then all of a sudden, it will be muscle memory. Pretty soon, the peak that seems insurmountable becomes an ant hill. Positive thinking, positive personal reinforcement, and positive self talk all lead to success.
As you go through today, Thursday and Friday be sure to recharge, focus, and drive toward your goals...you will feel great heading into the weekend!
