Power and You

Power and You

Let's develop and maintain a strong coupling between wisdom, virtue and POWER, and dare to act for a better world!

All of us wield far more power to influence than we might dare to imagine. But how each of us expresses that, depends a lot on how we have experienced power in our lives.

For some it's more comfortable to own and direct power oneself, but for others, letting others yield the power, can seem like the better option instead. This is a completely understandable strategy from one point of view, considering that many have suffered negative consequences as a result of others expressions of power in the past. Fighting fire with fire, doesn't always seem like the best idea.

The thing is, either way, our actions or our inaction's yield results regardless. As the principle of accountability reveals, responsibilities can be taken (or ignored) but accountability for what happens in systems over time, is typically, in some way or other, shared. What happens next is in part, down to me and you.

This month in the Sociocracy 3.0 Online Learning Community, Practitioner Lounge, we're diving into the theme of ??POWER?? We start today (April 1) with a meetup, looking at the relationship between power and ourselves. Examining our relationship to power, helps us deepen our understanding of how power influences us and how we can intentionally embrace and channel it as a force to bear influence in the world.

One way to think about Sociocracy 3.0 is as a set of patterns that help us learn how to more intentionally and effectively distribute power to influence throughout organizational systems in ways that help us to best achieve our goals. Perhaps more than ever before we live in a time when learning how to constrain and distribute power consciously and effectively is not only a nice idea, but essential if we're to surmount the approaching climax of challenges ahead.

As always the question is, knowing this, what now shall I do?
