Power Of Yoga
We Always Want New Experience:
Whatever action we take in life, work, whatever success we get, whatever things we buy - behind every action is the desire to change our situation.
We want to CHANGE situations in life.
We want to move from one situation to another. We buy car, home, jewelry and other items. We keep buying expensive gadgets.
Behind all of this, we have a common feeling that we want to experience life happily at a different level.
Our focus is OUR EXPERIENCE of life. We want to change our life experience to increase our happiness.
How can we change or improve the experience of our life?
There are many methods. First we need to understand - what do we actually mean by experience? Most people are confused about the concept.
There are four components to every experience. However, we don’t always pay attention to them equally.
Focus Changes Everything:
For example, if you see photos of four people on a computer screen or website, and you click on one, it will enlarge. And you can use your fingers on the touchscreen to make the person on whom you’re focusing bigger and brighter, zooming in on your area of interest. Doing so, however, causes you to lose sight of the other three people.
If you only pay attention to one component, then the same component will define your whole experience.
It’s important to understand this clearly.
Every Experience Has FOUR Components:
EVERY experience has four components, and is made of 4 parts. At every moment, whatever component you focus on, will become bigger and occupy the entire screen of your mind. Out of the four components of your experience, whatever you focus on will dominate your impressions. Doing so causes you to lose sight of the bigger picture.
Here are the four components to every experience:
- Physical attributes (sensations and body position);
- Thoughts and thought patterns;
- Feelings and emotions; and
- Attitude.
Attitude is generally an automatic, long-term, default VIEW you have about everything & everyone in life. Attitude is like the standard operating system of your existence. Whenever you encounter anyone or any situation, your attitude is always present and filters the encounter.
Experience is NOT JUST Feeling:
Most people mistakenly think experience is emotions or feelings.
Emotions are a part of your experience, but they are temporary. They come in waves. But whenever any emotion or feeling is present, most people think that the feeling is the ENTIRE experience. It’s a mistake to think that our experiences consist of nothing more than feelings. Anger, fear, joy - these are all just one component of your experience.
Remember that your experience also includes thoughts, your physical self (body posture), and attitude. We can’t always control every aspect of every experience but we can take steps to modify the other components - if we remember to balance these components in our consideration.
Different Pathways To Create New Experience Of Life:
So, to change your life experience, apply these different Sadhana Methods - spiritual practices leading to specific goals. As there are four components of every experience, there are also four Sadhana Methods for changing them:
1) To change emotions: Bhakti Yoga. In Bhakti Yoga, you become fully immersed in a deep love for God. You always feel love for God and God’s creation. You will become fully united with God in the experience of love. In Bhakti Yoga, you slowly develop a higher level of intensity, passion and emotion of your love for God.
2) To change thought patterns: Gyan Yoga. Gyan Yoga works by identifying the root cause of suffering as the identification with an illusory world and illusory sense of the self. Understanding this truth can help realign your thoughts into a more constructive and positive setting.
3) To change attitude (Vrutti): use of regular Satsang, Swadhyay and selfless service. With selfless service, you can develop a new attitude. Changing attitude can also be accomplished through Karma Yoga.
4) To change physical sensations and posture: Ashtanga Yoga, Yoga Asana, Pranayama, Acupressure, Self-Massage and Mudra-Yoga.
Different Sadhana methods work on changing different components of your experience. Applying each of them accordingly to your life can result in a more balanced approach to improving the quality of your life experience and your overall state of happiness and well-being.
Power of Posture to CREATE a NEW Experience:
Now, let us look at some practical life examples.
Let’s suppose something bad happens and you get angry. In the moment of anger, look at all four components of your experience:
- First, you are feeling anger; this is your emotion.
- Second, you are having angry thoughts - thoughts of violence and retribution, perhaps.
- Third, you have an angry body posture and movements. Your eyes may get red. You may raise your voice and gesture with your hands.
- Finally, you have an angry attitude. Your attitude is one of complaint and negativity.
Obviously, this experience is not positively affecting your life. In this moment of deep anger, out of these four components, what can you change most easily?
You can’t quickly change an angry feeling into a peaceful one.
You can’t quickly change angry thoughts into loving thoughts.
You can’t quickly change an angry attitude into an attitude of appreciation and gratitude.
However, you can change your body posture or breathing patterns. In the very moment when you are filled with anger, you can get up, move your body, leave the area, go for a walk, go to a garden; you can focus and change your breathing. You can get out of your chair, drink a glass of water.
DIRECT Control Over Body Posture:
At every point, you have DIRECT and TOTAL control over your body posture, gestures, and breathing.
This is important, because it’s the most effective way to quickly change the quality of your experience. Emotions, thoughts and attitude are each hard to control. It takes a long time. Doing so requires a lot of effort and may not be practical in your day-to-day life.
However, changing your body posture, gestures, and breathing is EASY and achievable. If you know EXACTLY the breathing pattern for peace, body gesture or mudra for PEACE or body postures for great health, you can unlock the secret for life-long health and peace. Remember that each component of your experience is connected to the other. When you are able to change one, you will change them all, even if not directly.
With careful attention to your posture, you can remain PEACEFUL in every situation.
In the moment of anger, you can use Mudra of Peace or Breathing of peace to immediately change your experience from one of anger to one of greater calm. It’s the power of Yoga to change your life for the better.
Yoga is the science of Body Posture, Body Gesture & Breathing. It is an amazing science. Once you master Yoga, you will have direct and total control over your experience of life.
The body gives you direct control over your life experience. It’s the window to your experience overall; using this control will allow you to gradually change your emotions, thoughts, and attitudes as well.
But this is only possible if you have direct control over your body.
Let us understand the science of controlling body posture, body gesture and breathing patterns.
Basics Of Alphabet & Basics of Posture:
There are 26 letters in the alphabet: “abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz”.
Every word, every sentence, and every page in every book in the world are CREATED using only these basic 26 letters.
Entire human civilizations – the sum total of all their knowledge – are made up of just these 26 simple shapes. Letters are the building blocks. They are the foundation. The entirety of human progress is built on these 26 letters.
Similarly, Maharshi Patanjali discovered that there are 84 Body Postures that create different experiences and different benefits.
You can combine these 84 body postures or some body postures into a wide range of sequences to create amazing health benefits.
The Science Of Yoga:
The Science of Yoga has also identified 8 Main Mudras and 8 Breathing Patterns that give direct and immediate control over your life’s experience, resulting in lifelong benefits. Each posture, every gesture and every breathing pattern contributes to your life experience. Our body is a great miracle.
You can activate different states of health, energy, and vitality by using different asans and postures.
Attention to your posture is more important than ever. With increasing automation of manual labor, people have more time and to sit around watching YouTube. Watching TV like this, you have the posture of a “couch potato.” If this is your physical posture, every aspect of your experience is going to be affected, and not for the better.
So when you are sitting on the sofa, instead of defaulting to a slouch, use these new Yoga postures and make your life experience more positive.
Using Yoga, you will also enjoy your time with yourself. You’ll never be bored again!
Plan to practice yoga for two hours a day for the best results on your health and happiness.
People often feel lonely. And we try hard to run away from our loneliness. You send messages to friends or relatives, go to other people’s homes. But everyone is busy nowadays. They don’t respond. So, you might get depressed. It’s easy to forget that many people depend on others to achieve a happy life experience that they cannot create on their own. Consequently, this isolation has negative effects on their well-being.
But if you are doing yoga, you don’t need anyone! You can create YOUR OWN experience of happiness with the correct Yoga Asans, Yoga Body Postures, Body Gestures and Breathing patterns.
Once you learn this secret, you will be healthy, happy and busy in meaningful activities. And before you know it, other people will start coming to you and ask you to teach them yoga to cure back pain, etc.
The importance of yoga continues to grow even today; we even celebrate International Yoga Day each year on June 21st.
Changing thoughts, feelings, and attitudes is challenging; you have to participate in a long sadhana.
But everyone has a body and there is no need to learn anything! All you need to do is copy the other person demonstrating the yoga posture. Even the most illiterate person can learn this, and everyone can learn to change their body posture, gestures, and create a powerful and positive life experience for themselves.
