The Power of Words (step aside AI) - How writing and reflecting can allow you to be more present
A quick forward to this edition as it is very meaningful to me.

Music Playing in the background for today's newsletter.
Bahamas beautiful music video here "lost in the light" Bahamas -This song resonates with me on a personal level.
(Highly recommended to open the song above and play while reading the rest of the newsletter)
Goose "Slow Ready"
Explosions in the Sky "Your Hand in Mine"
Zack Bryan "Something in the Orange " (this kid is legit and shakes my soul.)
Chris Stapleton "White Horse"
Manchester Orchestra "Bed Head"
As I sit down to write this edition of the newsletter, I can't help but reflect on the season of life that 2023 has been. If you would have asked me at age 20,30, let alone 40..., that this would be my life at age 46, I simply would have said, "wild, let's not do that, ok?"
And that's the thing.
I've found one thing to be true in life.
My greatest lessons have come with blood and guts, (not in the literal sense.)
Pain and acceptance.
This year I learned how to grieve, how to start the process of truly healing and the stark and utterly beautiful realization that there is no finish life. Rather, there is an agreement(s) that I can make with myself. Then, measure myself on my performance against the commitment.
"Did I do what I said I would do?"
Prior to today, most would say that I'm an optimist. And, that would hold true. I'm hopeful for many things, and I'm grateful for the sideswipe(s) that that life has given me.
I'm awake.
I'm here.
I'm present.
I'm grateful.
I see you.
More importantly, I see me.
Best,
Steve
Alright, let's get to work.
There three types of writing that you should consider utilizing in your daily life to enhance personal growth, effective communication, and emotional intelligence
REFLECTIVE WRITING
To me, there is no writing that is more important. Consider it data for your life. The heart lies and the brain is constantly kicked in hyperdrive with dopamine doses firing at record speeds.
Slow it down.
Reflective writing focuses on personal introspection and processing your thoughts and emotions. It's a tool for self-discovery and understanding. Here's why it's valuable:
- Emotional Articulation: Reflective writing allows you to express and understand your feelings. Revisiting past entries can provide insights into your emotional growth and changes.
- Progress Tracking: It acts as a benchmark, helping you to see how far you've come, not just emotionally but also in your personal goals and aspirations.
- Perspective Gain: This type of writing helps in stepping out of your immediate experience and viewing situations from different angles, fostering empathy and broader understanding.

PERSUASIVE WRITING
Persuasive writing isn't about coercing; it's about connecting with others on an emotional level. The goal is to evoke understanding and feeling.
There is no argument to win.
Rather, seeds to plant and patience to persuade. This is the single biggest mistake I see B2B companies making. Stop talking about yourselves. Seriously. Audit all of your content today and get out the yellow highlighter. Then take a second color and highlight what voice all of your copy and content is in...
THIS IS THE MAGNETIC RECIPE!
Be your f*cking authentic self and attract the people in life and business who make your life full. Now, this is not an excuse to show up and be a shithead.
Do the work.
If you have areas in life that you have shown up weak in, work on it.
Prioritize it.
Align your values to your action and start to take an honest daily inventory. You will never feel whole until your actions align with your words. Your thoughts with your actions. That's how the world works and it's f*cking magical.
- Attracting Meaningful Connections: Honest and persuasive writing can draw in the right people in business or personal relationships.
- Demonstration of Empathy: It shows you listen and understand others, distinguishing between persuasion and manipulation. Understanding this difference is crucial for healthy interactions.
- Financial Benefits: Effective persuasive writing can bring monetary gains, especially in business contexts, by compellingly conveying value and benefits.
Example of Persuasive B2B Copy
Examples of the problem that is seeking a solution - depression, anxiety, stress, death of a loved one, relationship stress, breakup, divorce
I won't get into a keyword or secondary keyword monologue for ad spend, as that's not our space. Our space is organically create content and assets that carve out a distinct pathway in a space filled with vanilla noise.
Think, "cure for depression", "I need help grieving the loss of my loved one".
*Important to note - writing organically on social does make your content SEO eligible. You know, Microsoft, for example - they own LinkedIn. So yes, writing organically can absolutely boost your search performance.
"DO IT FOR YOURSELF. AND EVERYONE YOU LOVE. IT ONLY TAKES A FEW MINUTES TO FIND SOME HEADSPACE.

CONVERSATIONAL WRITING
For the purposes of where we are as a society, let's look at this as a few various areas of written conversational platforms today.
Email.
Text.
Community.
Love letters in Junior High, (do people still do that?)
Here is the easiest guide for you.
Conversational Writing aims to engage in meaningful dialogue rather than achieve a specific outcome. Its significance lies in:
- Dialogue Over Monologue: Focusing on creating a two-way conversation, recognizing the importance of mutual exchange in communication.
- Respecting Processing Times: Acknowledging that people have different rates of processing information and respecting those differences in your writing style.
- Foundation for Relationships: The essence of life is communication and relationships. How you write can significantly impact how you connect with others and make them feel.
I hope this has been helpful to you. Whether that is on a personal level, or with business, or most favorably - both.

Steve and the team at MAGNETIC
