The Power Of Words

Something Silly:

LOL,?FYI, and OMG are now official words in the dictionary.

?

Something Serious:

I always say: "If serving your words with care is below you, then leadership is beyond you."

It’s critical to Leaders, both in and out of the workplace to understand the power of their words, spoken or written.?

One's words can serve to inspire or destroy.

In choosing your words wisely consider being:

  • BOLD in your vision
  • OPEN in your style
  • VULNERABLE in your asks
  • ACTIVE in your pursuit
  • CLEAR in your goals and?
  • FLEXIBLE in your approach?

Remember one's words may be forgiven but rarely forgotten.

Executive coaching supports the development of the leadership skills demanded today. My question to you is:?What word would you choose to define your leadership style??

Let’s discuss.?

As a teacher, I used an activity with my class that involved toothpaste and various tools. The objective was to empty the toothpaste and then put it all back in the tube. The connection: the toothpaste represented our words and the tube our mouth. Some groups were successful in getting the paste back in the tube, and were then told to smell their fingers. No matter how much we attempt to take our words back, they have a lasting impact (both positive and negative). How do you want your fingers to smell? And since you asked...I'd describe my leadership style as supporting.

Love your series, Joshua Miller! ???? Our words are powerful...and which one(s) we choose to embody matter, a LOT...for ourselves and those around us. If you think your words don't matter, or that people don't pay attention, just watch what happens when a leader pauses to give genuine appreciation to one of their team who may be struggling. I would describe my leadership style as empowering. Thank you for sharing this and for the very kind mention! ?????? Your insights are appreciated!?

Joshua Miller thank you for sharing. Just on the point. Great post. I would just add: "And your words create your WORLD, any leader should be careful while choosing their words." Thank you. ??
