Pick up any book and you hold an incredible power in your hands, the power of words. They inspire us, motivate us, and provide us encouragement through the inevitable ups and downs of life. As someone who often turns to quotes for reflection and motivation, I wanted to share some of my favorites. But first, let’s explore why quotes hold such power.
Why do quotes stand the test of time?
Quotes are bite-sized nuggets of wisdom that encapsulate big ideas in just a few words. They can articulate our feelings and help us feel understood, they can offer new perspectives, and they can weave together our life experiences like an invisible string. Often, they are a beacon, guiding us through challenging times, or a source of validation during moments of joy.
It’s possible to find entire books dedicated to collecting these quotes from particular authors, such as “Meditations” by Marcus Aurelius, “Thoreau: A book of quotations” extracted from the works of Henry David Thoreau, “La Rouchefoucauld Maxims,” and Friedrich Nietzsche’s “Aphorisms on Love and Hate.” Open any book on our shelves, you’ll likely find a faded green highlight marking a particularly memorable passage. Some of these noteworthy quotes even make it up on the quote wall to revisit on a regular basis.
