1. What do you do exactly?
领英推荐
I lead the marketing team and work with the executive team on the? company strategy. Some of my tasks include, product & content? marketing, advertising & public relations, market research, organizing? our presence at events, internal and external communications,? brand development and liaising with other departments.??
Compared to a corporate environment, being a CMO in a startup ?means you have to be specially hands-on, but it is something I enjoy.? In order to know whether a project is on the correct path and to? understand your team challenges, you benefit from having to do? tasks you would generally delegate in larger corporations yourself.?
2. What is the most challenging aspect of being in your role and? especially as a woman???
I have been lucky to work with amazing and very supportive people? throughout my career and have not faced discrimination due to my? gender. As a C-level in a tech company however, the environment? remains largely male at the executive level, and available female? mentors seem to be more of an exceptionality than a given. This? however is changing as we speak, and more female profiles are both? taking an interest and being incorporated.??
3. What was the most important decision you made that helped? you get to where you are today???
To step out of my comfort zone, and say yes to projects that one? might not feel 100% qualified to do but that will help you learn a new? skill and eventually you’ll be an expert yourself. I always tell my team,? if you have a challenge, vocalise it, but come with a possible solution? in mind. Now a days there are so many online resources, and? mentors that there are no excuses to not learn a new skill.??
At a bigger scale, I had not worked in tech before PowerAPI, but? when the opportunity arose, I took it and ran with it. You will quickly? realise that there are so many transferable skills that you can be an? asset to any given situation as long as you are open to step out of? your comfort zone.?
4. What advice would you like to share with women? entrepreneurs in your field???
My suggestion to any entrepreneur would be to start their meetings? by asking their colleagues, partners, or suppliers how their day has? been before diving into the meeting agenda. It’s like a target? audience in marketing, it is important to remember that at the end of? the day, we are all human beings and form relationships in a similar? way. By taking this approach, you can establish a more meaningful? relationship that will benefit you both personally and professionally.??
It is also crucial to identify people who can advocate for you, help? you navigate the industry landscape, and point out opportunities? that you may have overlooked. While some may view joining? mentorship programs or associations as a waste of time, it is? actually an excellent way to expand your network and learn from? individuals who you may not have had the chance to connect with? otherwise. This will help you diversify your circle and uncover new? learning opportunities.?
