Why bother learning public speaking and communication skills?
In both the workplace and life, self-advocacy is a crucial skill that empowers women to take control of their careers, health, and personal goals. Clients I work with in Public Speaking and Communication are consistently facing issues with listing their skills in job interviews, asking questions without the fear of looking 'stupid' and even complaining in restaurants (when necessary !), asking their hairdresser for what they want, speaking to tradesmen...the list goes on.
When women confidently advocate for themselves, they not only open doors for personal success but also challenge societal norms that may hinder gender equity.
In the Workplace: Advocating for promotions, raises, or leadership roles is essential for breaking through the glass ceiling. Women who voice their accomplishments and aspirations are more likely to gain recognition, improve job satisfaction, and drive their careers forward. It also sets a powerful example for others, fostering a workplace culture where female voices are valued.
In Life: Self-advocacy extends beyond the office. Whether negotiating boundaries in relationships or pursuing personal ambitions, women who speak up for their needs tend to build more fulfilling lives. By owning their choices and making their voices heard, they create opportunities for growth and happiness.
In Health: This is a big one- it's all too common and can be triggering for some. Women advocating for their health is vital. Speaking up during medical appointments, asking questions, and insisting on thorough care can lead to better outcomes. Self-advocacy helps women take charge of their well-being, ensuring their concerns are taken seriously.
Learning techniques to communicate without being 'pushy' is a vital skill.
Ultimately, when women advocate for themselves, they pave the way for not only personal success but a more equitable future for all.
