Success doesn't come overnight. Its not some magic wand that you wave into the air and poof you become the CEO of a fortune 500 company or you move up the corporate ladder and then everyone knows your name. No, a wad of cash isn't secretly waiting for you in a bag after purchasing a lottery ticket at the nearest deli, 7-eleven or grocery store while you're sitting by hoping and wishing that you hit the lottery. Those statistics aren't in your favor. Its a one in three hundred million chance to win the jackpot and those odds are not on your side but the odds that will work for you is YOU. You hold the key to your success and no one else.
Most of us want the golden egg or the golden goose to lay our path down for success. We want it easy or we want someone to show us what to do and how to do it but we don't want to work that hard for it. If we do work hard we want a structured "how to" path to success. Some are even wishing that success will fall into their lap, or someone will guide them to being a millionaire or praying that success will magically appear. I'm sorry to tell you that you're wrong. Success doesn't come from just a dream, wish or a prayer. It comes from dedication, hard work, time, effort, energy, passion and action. If you want success go out and get it. No one serves it on a silver platter and no one gives it to you. If you have been given a hand out you won't appreciate it. You have to take the courage and power that you have inside yourself and GRAB IT.
The one thing that mostly all successful people have in whatever field they are in is-- passion. You have to have passion. Everyone who has made a success of themselves whether they were investment bankers, lawyers, authors, sales managers or hedge fund owners; they are all passionate about what they are doing. When you are passionate about your career your position doesn't feel like hard work because you love what you do. Time goes by and you're enthralled in growing, learning and being better. Every day you just want to be better at the position you're in. The passion drives you and keeps the engine moving. So, find a position that you are passionate about and you will never feel like you're just existing, you will be thriving.
Next, you must be dedicated, which is that you have to be committed to what you are doing. Most people are just doing things but they don't have the commitment that it takes. If you really want to shine in any field commit to the project and commit to the assignment. I don't care if you like or dislike the person you are working with because you can't change their personality, you can only change how you work around them. But if you commit to something with your word you finish it out. In business all you have is your word, which should be something that you are proud of. Being a good leader or a good manager is about keeping your word and committing to things you say you're going to do.
Lastly, you have to execute, execute, execute. Its easy to say that you WANT to get promoted, or you want to close the deal or you want to make a project happen; but its harder to say that you closed on the deal and you executed on the project you're were working on. Don't get caught up on the "what ifs or would've, could've or should've" and just do it. Make a plan and complete it with action. If you are dedicated and passionate in what you are doing and you try to do your best, then you must execute. Your best is all you can do. Don't be someone who sits on the sidelines and talks about a deal forever but never accomplishes your goal. You will never know unless you try. Make it happen. And if you fail at it, take the lesson from it and grow but don't stop and don't hold back the execution. You will never know how successful you will be unless you try!!!
