It is often a hidden strength and an essential component on our path to greatness.

But to get there, we need to face our fears. And that is one of the hardest things for so many adults to do.

Because it requires a level of vulnerability that very few are willing to show, especially in professional life.

Traditionally, asking for help was an act of vulnerability, yet it is perceived as not knowing something. As a result, many people pretend to understand and quickly lose the respect of those around them.

The fact is, asking for help instead of pretending to know all the answers is an excellent trait, especially for leaders leading during these challenging times. Sharing our struggles, whatever they might be, help us to relate with others profoundly. It gives us the courage to act despite our fears and challenges.

Most effective leaders are students too!

Ultimately, it is a strength that highly emotionally and socially intelligent (E&SQ) leaders exercise when appropriate and as often as needed.

As with everything in life, we need to have a balance. We don't have to hide our vulnerabilities but neither we need to broadcast them. The best E&SQ leaders share their vulnerabilities, fears, worries or concerns for the right reason or purpose as they work diligently to solve the challenges. But they know the best path forward is not going alone.
