The Power of NO

The Power of NO

I recently found myself tumbling down a Facebook rabbit hole. They made a tempting offer, claiming their incredible AI would solve all my health and fitness problems. Intrigued, I clicked on their "squeeze page" and answered their questions.

Their "AI" presented a countdown timer, suggesting it needed time to generate my personal results. I watched an endless video full of promises, claiming they were the only ones who could solve my problems. At the end, the pitch offered a discounted price, missing only the Ginsu knives.

They showcased famous people I'd never heard of, who supposedly built and endorsed the program. However, as someone familiar with algorithms and marketing, I saw through the hype.

This was no true AI, just code with IF-THEN statements. The exaggerated promises followed the standard playbook. I ignored their $159.99 offer, and they sent a follow-up with a "huge discount" of 48% for just $19.

Saying "no" to $37 led to a better offer. Negotiation often uncovers hidden extras. Their emails continued with claims of approval and urgency, but I remained skeptical.

Today, the expired offer was reduced to $14.99, claiming it was cheaper than a glass of wine. The power of "no" became evident.

In my experiences negotiating in Hong Kong and Singapore, saying "no" was crucial. We often say "yes" too easily. Saying "no" respectfully can yield positive outcomes.

Remember these tips for delivering a powerful "no":

  1. Keep it brief.
  2. Say "thank you" to maintain a positive tone.
  3. Stick to your decision when the other party negotiates.
