The Power of Surrender: Learning to Trust God’s Way Over Our Own

Have you ever felt like you're doing all the right things, but nothing is quite falling into place? So often, things don’t go exactly as I thought they would—or even as I thought they should. In fact, most of the time, that’s the case.

Journaling with God: A Practice of Surrender

One of my favorite spiritual practices is journaling with God. I’ve done this for many years, and it’s become a sacred time for me. I use two colored pens: with my pink gel pen, I pour out my heart—my desires, concerns, and prayers. Then, I switch to a purple pen and allow God to speak to me, writing down what I feel He is saying.

"I'm discovering that God is always working, even when I can't see it."

This practice never ceases to amaze me, especially when I go back and read what I’ve written weeks, months, or even years later. It reminds me of how God is continually at work behind the scenes.

A Moment of Divine Insight

I remember one time when I felt completely stuck—juggling the demands of my business, my family, and my faith. In my journaling, I poured out my frustrations, and as I switched to my purple pen, God’s words came gently but powerfully: “Release it to Me. Let Me carry this.” That moment shifted everything.

A Biblical Roadmap for Peace and Prosperity

Today, during my morning journaling, I was led to Philippians 4 in The Passion Translation. This passage opened up new insights for me. It starts with a powerful invitation:

“Now arise in the fullness of your union with our Lord.”

As I continued reading, I noticed a four-part formula laid out in verses 6-8:

?? “Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing.”

Surrender it to God. Release the burden.

??. “Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude.”

Trust that He hears every prayer and delights in every detail of your life.

?? “Tell Him every detail of your life, then God’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding will make the answers known to you.”

Faith is not just about believing—it’s about letting go and allowing God to work.

?? “Keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising Him always.”

Focus your mind on what is true, good, and worthy. Shift your perspective to align with His promises.

A Reminder from God: He Will Fulfill the Rest

Yesterday, I was journaling about a dilemma, asking God to show me His way. I felt Him speak these words to my heart, and I wrote them down in purple:

“Watch it unfold with grace and ease—release it to Me and let Me work. All is well. I am working in and through every aspect. Trust Me, keep your eyes on Me. Live fully, focusing on your growth, goals, and heart's desires, and I will fulfill the rest.” - God to Brenda in prayer (purple pen)

Reading this today, after reflecting on Philippians 4, I saw a pattern emerge—a roadmap, if you will:

• Surrender – Release it to God.
• Faith – Trust that He is faithful to complete what He began.
• Focus – Keep your eyes on Jesus.
• Play Full On – Live fully, embracing each moment with courage and joy.

and finally the promise

“He is faithful to complete that which He began in you.” – Philippians 1:6 TPT
